Just came from a new Toyota dealer and saw the 2.4 engine bay,
It seems just a little bit wider, but close to the same length.
    The trans is very similar.

    I'll investigate further

it may be a tight fit but it does fit if you can measure the dimensions. and the space in between the frame.

What got me started into asking about this engine was the torque out put rated at 163 ft-lbs. at 4000 rpm.
Rated hp is 160 at 5700 rpm.

The supercharger option for the scion on a stock engine brings hp to 200 but ther is no other info that I could find.

It just seemed like a good switch engine for some reason.

If torque is what you're looking for, do what the MR2 and Celica guys did. Swap in the 3.0L 1MZ-FE V6 from the Camry and call it a day. w00t!

    Too big.

I'd like to keep a 4 banger inside.

    a pair of 4agze's and e58 transmissions weigh 1400lbs...... so.... a 4agze and an e58 weigh 700lbs..... an e51 weighs 140lbs..... so, a 4agze weighs roughly 550lbs.....

they aren't light engines! my hardtop mr2 with e51 and ae101 4agze tips the scales at 2400lbs!!!

Well, the 3.0L has about 200HP while the 3.5L has about 280HP. 3.5L comes with Dual VVT-i while the 3.0L comes with ACIS. You could find more info on the 3.0L swap than the 3.5L swap (I don't even think anyone has attempted to swap the 3.5L to a MR2 or Celica yet or any car for that matter).

They're not big IMO. It's pretty compact. Not only that but the 3.0L weighs about the same as a 3S-GTE.

the 3.5 is very tall from what i saw when i went to the dealer. I supposedly heard that my friend said the 1zzfe weighs 350 lbs with the tranny is this true or is this toyota mechanic lying. it seems true because when my friend and i put my engine in the car the both of us just lifted it up easily and it did not seem heavy at all.

I would imagine the 1ZZ-FE is light seeing as how it's a small engine with an aluminum block and head. The 5S-FE and the 3S-GE on the other hand are sumo wrestlers. Those mofo's are heavy!
