    GREETS everyone.
My dad purchased a '02 4 Door Tacoma 4cyl pickup a few weeks back. He brought it by for me to install a in dash NAV system in it. Don't know much about 'yodas but this one was setup 'prerunner' style and it is 2wd. Didn't think much of it until I popped the hood looking for the fuse box.
It has a belt driven supercharger and tube headers on the DOHC 4cyl engine. Also a K&N CAI was added to it. I was really taken back. There was nothing externally on the vehicle that made this thing look special. There was a decal under the hood that said TRD supercharged. I'm guessing this was a factory option; it all looked like a factory setup.
I drove it and was unimpressed. A typical 4cyl slug. But with a belt driven supercharger you should have boost at low RPM. I can't detect any boost, or power increase. The conclusion I came to is there must be an internal waste gate that is stuck open and bleeding off the boost pressure. My dad was totally unaware it was supercharged.

Looking for info on the 4 cyl with the supercharger. What was the factory HP/TQ rating on this setup? Who can help me out?

He bought a vehicle without even opening the hood?
I looked for a bit but couldn't find anything. I can try again later.

    Yep, that is my Pop.
Pays someone else to do all vehicle maintenance. Never looks under the hood. He does not like to get his hands dirty.

Oh ok well hey hopefully you can figure out why the supercharger seems to be pointless... I figured it would have been very noticeable.

I'd double check and see if it had the whole TRD package applied to it. The supercharger was not a Toyota factory option, but a TRD dealer installed option. Along with the supercharger, they had a performance suspension - sounds like this i the double cab version - so it should have Tokico struts on it, with the progressive-rate front coil springs and modified rear leaf spring suspension, a larger front stabilizer bar, P265/70R16 BF Goodrich tires, 16x7-inch alloy wheels, black overfenders and TRD graphics (TRD Off-Road on the side) - if it got the whole TRD package.

    PreRunners had a 3RZ-FE 2.7L 4 cylinder, twin-cam engine that made 150HP @ 4800rpm / 177 lb./ft. @ 4000rpm. The standard Tacomas had a 2RZ-FE 2.4L 4 cylinder engine that made 142HP @ 5000rpm / 160 lb./ft. @ 4000rpm. The supercharger from TRD was developed by Alpine Developments and rated at 8PSI of boost for about a 50% increase in power or up to 71HP to 75HP gain max.

Your dad stumbled onto a pretty good deal - just stay on-top of the maintenance and the truck will keep running.

Doesn't sound like a totally good deal if they couldn't even tell it was supercharged.
