anyone know of a good local shop that fixes toyota a/c?
turned on my van a/c yesterday and no cold air. :(:superconf
i havent checked under the hood yet to see if my compressor is turning on or not and whether i'm out of refrigerant or what.

Hmmm, hopefully it's just out of refrigerant, that would be a cheap fix. Could also be a broken belt or dirty condenser. Hopefully the compressor's not gone!

I may be back into the Toyota business, I'm looking at the Echo RS hatchback.

I had my a/c recharged for 110 and it's great and all until today. I think the
Compressor may have died on me! I turn on a/c and I don't see the compressor
Turn when I look under the hood. I wil check again when I get home tonight. If that's the case
Then screw it. I'm not gonna spend anymore money on the car. It's 11 yrs old and I rarely use it and I'll just roll down my windows in the summer time.

RS echo is nice. I have a nephew with an RS 5speed. Nice little car and great gas mileage

$110, ouch!!! The A/C belt in my 5 is starting to go, my wife ran over a parking curb which damaged the under body shield and A/C belt protector which then started eating away at the belt, I may not even bother fixing it yet when it goes. The way I see it, I'm going to extend the life of my compressor for when I do decide to sell the 5 in the future, if I do. lol. Unless you're going into the interior or down south, it rarely gets hot enough to use A/C in Vancouver. Just roll dem windows down. Compressors are like what $1000 parts and labour anyway?? Ouch.

I'm actually now looking at a regular 5 door LE... as much as I wanted the RS, a dealer absolutely desperate for my business is almost giving one away to me. I may just search from time to time at junkyards for the RS seats, that's the only thing from the RS that I want, and maybe the spoiler and side skirts. It's just a commuter car and something to drive for fun in especially down to WA state to join the Toyota Syndicate NW crew. My 5 has all the creature comforts... except A/C anytime soon. lol.

$110 is actually an excellent price to recharge dual a/c vehicles. it's an extremely great price. :)
i called around before i was referred to this guy and he's mobile so he comes to your house or workplace. dealers wanted minimum $250 to recharge. a/c shops wanted anywhere between $200 to $230. the guy who did it for me normally charges around $80 for cars, but mine have dual a/c so he charged me $100+$10 for a bottle of stop leak for a/c.

    after 2 days... i got a new problem. :(
the a/c stopped working all together. the compressor won't even turn.
so i phoned the guy again and he will come have a look for me. he's actually very nice and his work is very good. he'll meet me tomorrow and check it out. i'll see what he says and how much. if it's over $500 - screw it. i know that if i take it to the dealer or even a shop, it will cost me minimum $500 to over $1k if it's a compressor problem... so i'll see what he says tomorrow. he thinks it's electrical coz it was working prefectly for 2 days after he recharged it.

if you ever need your mazda5 a/c fixed, i can give the name of the guy who did my van. some of the dealers in town uses this guy.

if you can afford a new toyota now, why not. with the 0% financing for 5yrs and free maintenance on some models, now is the best time to buy a brand new toyota. :)

Any word on the A/C in your car? I didn't think A/C recharges would cost that much! I was quoted I think $130 to replace the belt and cover which doesn't seem bad but hey if he can do it a bit cheaper, sure!

I have been looking at new Yaris actually... I'd go for the new RS in Blizzard Pearl. lol. I like the car but I just find it a bit odd that for just $1700 more, I can get a Corolla S. I don't want the Corolla S, it's a nice vehicle and all but it's not what I'm looking for. Mind you that $1700 can get me a few things like a TRD Borla exhaust. :)

my a/c condenser is toast. it's leaking and that's why my a/c won't turn on coz the refrigerant is all gone. when the refrigerant is too low, the compressor wont turn on. it's a safety feature so the compressor wont go bad/blow up.
it'll cost me around $300 to max of $400 to replace the condenser. i can do it myself for just $210.
i decided to just leave it alone, not gonna bother. i dont use the car that much or the a/c. i put on less than 50 kms. per week on the car and it's 11yrs old.

the yaris is nice but yes it's true, for another thousand dollars or so... you get a much bigger corolla. only time it's worth buying a yaris is if you go with the absolute base model. once u start adding the options, might as well go to a corolla.

i read yesterday that car deals at dealerships are starting to dry out... meaning the economy is turning around so dealers are starting to raise prices again and rebates/discounts are drying up. so if you can find a good deal now, go for it is what they're saying.

if you can fix it for $200, it might be worth it. you can probably get a few more years out of it. summers are so hot now that you need air con

i can definitely do it. the condenser cost $210 from lordco without discount.
if i can find someone who can get me discount, that price will probably drop to around $170-$180. it'll probably take 2hrs by myself, less if i can get some help.

    i'll see... :)

Huh Best Ever Red Tag Days has been extended until June 30, now with a whopping $1,500 cash incentive (what exactly is a cash incentive? Like downpayment towards the car?). Good because I still can't decide about the car. :)

yah thats basically what cash incentive is.
some dealers will only let u use it towards the car or only towards accessories.
better than 0 incentives i guess.

Jeprox, what's the name and number of your AC buddy? I might need his services. :)

I decided that I only want a car to tinker around and have fun with, nothing more, so a new car wouldn't suit me. I'm going to look at a classic, a 79 Celica GT liftback. :)

Thanks! Well I thought I would use him to reinstate the 79 Celica's AC but it failed AirCare so I didn't end up getting it. :(

I did however pick up a 90 Celica GT in excellent condition for cheap. :)
