    MythBusters - Crash Force - awesome test

    Video - MythBusters - Crash Force

    Mythbusters crew decided to revisit an old myth that was drawing the ire of the show's fans for quite some time. And it's sure to be an interesting topic to automotive enthusiasts.

    When two cars collide, each traveling 50 miles per hour, does the resulting force equal one car hitting an immovable object at 100 miles per hour?

    It seems like such simple physics, no? But don't forget Newton's third law. To quote the great Wikipedia of knowledge, "Whenever a first body exerts a force F on a second body, the second body exerts a force −F on the first body. F and −F are equal in magnitude and opposite in direction." Or, more simply, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

    The car that punched into the wall at 100MPH was pretty impressive. Also impressed by how the little car did with the 50MPH test.

    The classic physics problem on conservation of momentum, conservation of energy in an inelastic collision. It IS simple physics, just many people forget about the conservation laws or get confused by other "experts" in the field.

    There was actually a discussion of this on one of those gearhead reality shows - the so called "expert" got it wrong and someone from outside the studio had to correct him.

    saw it a couple weeks ago and i must say the 100mph crash was amazing. they should have put buster in the car. once they did the scaled test with clay it was easy to see.

    Use your common sense first. Many people throw that out the window and jump on the bandwagon too often. If it's bothering you, do your research and find out for yourself.

    But the reason why one watches TV is to get away from thinking lol.

    @topic:
    I know people make mistakes but how many of those myths they've done are actually true? Most of them or some of them?

    I wouldn't go that far - saying that TV is one of the sources for viewer ignorance and stupidity.

    There are alot of good stuff and programming on TV - you just have to sift through the channels to something that is worthwhile.

    Plus, if those type of programming inspire one to crack open their old textbooks, more power to you.

    Too bad the majority of them aren't. For example, Jersey Shore.
