Well cable is the next best thing.

OC-768 (40Gbps) downloads 1 Petabyte in around 16 hours give or take. There are talks of a 100Gbps OC about. Thought I would share.

Yeah, I recently switched to FIOS myself. Used to be on Verizon DSL - which was decent, as I'm a stone's throw away from the CO. Picked up the Triple Play pack deal - upp'd the internet speeds to the symmetrical 25/25 - as I telecommute on occasions and need the upstream bandwidth. Now I get internet + phone + TV for 50% less than what I was paying before.

Before that - it was broadband via satellite, as the only other option was Adelphia cable company - which was note even an option for me. That got pretty expensive, fast + DirecTV and rain fade was a PITA. Every once and a while, I get some video artifacts popping onto the screen - but overall it was pretty decent.

Meh. I'll stick with Cox Cable. Too much of a hassle to switch another provider.
