    Talk about tires.

So I bought my 14" kumho's around 2-3 years ago. [before fixing my struts ] Now, since I let the tires wear unevenly, I sold wheels and tires (2 > 50% life) and am back on my old 13".

I just ordered 155/80R-13 Kumho Power Star 758 for 37$ ea. I was just wondering if it was worth getting 165-80-13 for an extra 3$ ea?

Last I remember: wide tire = good traction = bad fuel economy

Would I have felt the difference in fuel economy if I got the wider tires? I never ever haul ass on the ae82 anymore since 1. All my adrenaline gets used up on 2 wheels and 2. I want the ae82 to last a tad longer.

Im running 155/80/13 now but seem to only get 26-28mpg and my subs are off :(

Personally, I think you're worrying too much about fuel economy.

I'm not really worrying about it. Just wanting to get others' input...

I think 165-80 wont be to much a difference handling wise either because of the soft sidewall. That said I think 37 a piece isn't bad for some kumhos huh?

165 vs 155 - not much difference, here, fuel economy is dictated more by the tire (how soft/compliant - tire carcass construction) and air pressure than this level of width. If you went more extreme - like a 205 or 225 treadwidth, then that is a different story.

Any loss of fuel economy could likely be recovered by running slight more tire PSI. Just by dropping from a 14" to a 13" tire/wheel probably recover more mileage than the 10mm difference in width.

Personally - I'd trade a MPG or two to get a slightly fatter tire. $37+change a tire - can't beat that at all.

Thanks for the info fish. I guess I should have gone the extra 3$/tire and went for the 165. Damnit :(

Oh well, if the AE lasts another 4 years or 25k miles [whichever comes first] I'll probably get the 175/70/13 :D

Be happy your tires are a meager $37 a piece. Mine are more than 5 times that per tire.

I kinda doubt that, unless you are unemployed.

Tires arrived. I must say, tirerack delivers fast. ordered friday night (like 1am) and arrived this morning.

Initial observations/comments: soft sidewall. I guess I should have expected that. My current tires' sidewalls have been curb rubbed over and over and seem to have lasted all the abuse. I should lessen the curb kissing scene for these tires for sure.

Yes you should. It's called learning how to drive.
