    Problem With Engine? HELP!

Ok im not the corolla car guru here but im having a slight problem.
Ill try to explain it the best way as i can..
Say im at a stop light and im fully on stop and i have the foot on the brakes
then green light appears and i step on the gas pedal. THE PROBLEM IS when i step on the pedal why does my engine stall? ill sound stupid but i think this is the best way. to illustrate it.. Green light. let go of the brake and immideatly step on the gas, then silence silence silence then the engine goes?
I was on a uphill and this happened and i actually had my foot almost all the way down the gas but no engine response, i had to let go off the gas and let the engine run ( since its an auto) then i can step on the gas again and it'll work
whats wrong is it the oil? is it the throttle response i just recently changed to my winter tires with steelies and i didnt have much of this problem with the rims i had on. is it the cause?

sorry for the stupid questions its just that the uphill experience kind of freaked me out. why didnt my car move when i pressed on the gas?

Maybe sounds like the torque converter. I dont know much about auto trannys, but that would be my guess

how would i know if that's broken and how would i fix it?
it just started getting bad when i put my steelies on so i thought that was the problem, then i thought of it and realized that was dumb

Does your engine actually stall? Does it stop and you have to restart it?

Or does the engine continue to run and just not go anywhere when you step on the pedal.

Check the level of your transmission fluid.

Check your mass airflow sensor too. if its dirty enough it will make the car stall when hitting the gas

If it doesnt happen all the time it might be bad gas .... My car will do something like that like once a year or once every so many months then it will run normal like nother ever happen .... :)

There's no such thing as bad gas. That's just hocus pocus. Fuel has to meet a certain standard in order to even sell.

Check your injectors and fuel pump.

Since your engine is still running and you don't need to restart it, I don't think you can call it "engine stall". Most likely it's your transmission or the torque converter.
How about try to shift to "2" or "L" instead of start from "D"? My old old civic used to work if I started at "2" or "L", but not "D", lol.

Well, that's not bad gas. The gas was delivered fine until it got contaminated with water in the reservoir tanks. You make it seem like the gas came defective. :) Octane will never change.

Like in South Florida when right before a hurricane Shell was selling gas that wouldn't tell you when your tank was empty. I don't know what was wrong with the gas, but your gauge would always stay full. They had to fix that too.

usually u can tell if the gas is contaminated by taking a small sip of it. next time when you at the gas station do what Homer Simpson does.

OK i now i have a different problem!!! My engine light is on Please Help
kryptic karma also said something about the MAF sensor being dirty would that turn the engine light on?
Everything seems to working fine the throttle problem i dont notice anymore everything works fine. i checked the fluid there all ok except the steering fluid which is half way mark
it turned on right after i filled up at shell. what else would trigger the light to turn on?
start ups are not a problem.
all these problems occurred when it started snowing and when i put the steelies on
i have a feeling its the dirt and mud and snow that is affecting it...
    maybe the MAF sensor?

best thing is to take it to a mechanic if you don't know whats wrong with your car. just get it checked out and if you don't want to fix it post it here so that these guys can help you.

Make sure your gas cap is tight. Sometimes if a gascap is left loose it will set off a CEl. Also go out and buy yourself some CRC Mass airflow sensor cleaner from advance or autozone whatevers in your area and clean it. Even if its not the problem it wont hurt anything to try and clean it. I had the same symptoms with my car when i bought it and all it was was a dirty maf

O2 sensors go bad eventually. It is a normal thing to replace. I think you should replace both.
