so i was wondering

has anyone done any type of rally racing in there corolla?

i know its bad for the car but i race around the desert in trucks and after thinking i want to do some of it in my corolla just for fun

what do you guys think

iv done it in a big dirt/mud pit by my house were alot of trucks go to have fun, its not exactly the greatest thing for your engine if you like getting all that mud up in there. of course my car wasent lowered or had rims at the time.

is there fwd rally division?

yeah there is a front wheel drive division

toyota uses the corolla hatch base as there rally car
mazda uses the speed 3
poneac uses the g6 gtp

all front wheel drive

If you have an 8th gen or newer, it will be hard to find parts to have fun in a rally type of environment. Deserts I probably wouldn't recommend but doing some quick gravel or snow type of driving, you could probably have some fun there. I know a guy who fabricated a quick underplate for his 7th gen, got some stiffer suspension, raised his car and put on some offroad tires and he said he had a good amount of fun with just those mods. The only thing bad that happened to him was the Tundra that he was driving behind kicked up a nice big rock which slammed into his windshield and that was the only thing that broke but the rest was fine. I think he told me he was just driving about 40-50mph doing donuts and sliding the car. nothing extreme.

yes , i rallied my 94 geo prizm with scca rally novice 2 back in 99. the ae101 chassis actually does quite well on gravel. also is suprisingly durable.

youll be very suprised at how well it handles , without e-braking. be weary of e braking , it does have a snapsteer tendacy. a drfit can be initited by the "swedish flick".

well i have drivin on dirt roads fast with the car at my old work we would do e-brake slid into our parking spots so thats where i got the main idea.

would it be smart to get a strut bar

i have a bad wheel baring that i have to fix before i start but im going to give it a try

the only different between the suspension in the 7th and 8th gen is the placement of the front sway bar to clear the header downpipe.

it would be a good idea to make your chassis as ridgid as possible, up to and including stitch welding all the seams and welding in a multi-point roll cage.

Fix the wheel bearing first unless you want your wheel to fly off with the hub.

i know fo some guys who stage rally a rwd corolla... think it was the '86 kinda thing... but it wasn't the hatch. Currently, in rallycross i keep comin behind by 1 spot by a guy in a tercel if that gives you any idea.

Recommend trying out rallycross. Go hit up a hardware store and fab up a decent skidplate for protection, throw some snow tires on, and go have some fun!

and btw, MaxAttack is the 2wd national 'series'. they are the absolute best 'series' out there for newbies and such if you wanna take on stage rallying. You get your @$$ handed to you by a 550+hp volvo 240

there is no limit.

geo metro's had their own class in SCCA a few years ago. if you're lookin at FIA s2000 rules, those are different. there are classes for everything and anything.

on a side note. i've been tempted so many times to take my prizm out for RallyX instead of the civic just for kicks. I'm actually thinking my times would be better changing cars. But i have future plans for the honduh, and the more i drive it the more i learn. I've learned a lot just this year lemme tell ya.

and dirt and the honduh just make it so much freaking fun

thats true, 9th gen + has minivan inspired rear suspension.

everything i have read so far says for people new to the sport start with fwd and low power then go to awd and if you want a really big challenge go with rwd (cant be anything like a truck)

im exited for sure to give it a try

wheel bearing will be fix in a week or so im doing it myself this time alot cheeper and its not as hard as it seems its just finding the press

what I usually do is disassemble the hub and bring it to a local machine shop who charge me $25 to press it in..

true stuff. Now.. if you actually wanna full on rally your corolla... well, it'll get EXPENSIVE! just to meet all safety specs will cost you about 5k.. and for that much, you can finda 'running' used golf with spares, which is one of the best, most popular starts. As stated before, Geo's make good learning cars... scratch that, GREAT learning cars... no joke. the early generation golf havequite a bit of options for upgrades and such. repair is piece of cake, and parts are easier than heck to find. not to mention v-dub themselves are the only factory backer to directly be behind scca for rallyX, and i think they are even behind Rally America. Mazdapseed Motorsports will get you some killer deals for ms parts, oem, and all sorts of goodies at a much more affordable price. Only with them, you need 3 i think prior entrants using a Mazda vehicle for 1 prior year, with pics and all that.

but really, go find a local rallyX. check out scca.com and look under their rallyX section, google it.. you'll find stuff. it's a lot of fun!!! just remember this though if you do rallyx... you do eventually brake things on your car.. so ya and snow tires are your best friend for staying in stock category

if you're lookin at making it to the fia wrc.. but around here, with Rally America, NASA, CRS, or CARS.. no.. lol.. you're limitations are due to your class.

yeah for the hub and bearing you have to remove the nuckle and get the old bearing pushed out and then the new one put in. alot of places want $30 each thats y i paid $250 for my other side and right now the corolla is my only car but in two months im buying an ms3 so i think im going to keep the corolla and have fun with it

even for fun, all i would do is bolt up some steel to make a lil skid plate for protection. in your case, that's all i would do lol

I wouldn't rally my car, but I would love to watch. It's way more exciting than drifting imo.

definition of rally is a point to point race over any terrain passable

I wish the WRC came to the US, Canada or Mexico.
I also wish F1 came back to the US as well. All my favorite motorsports and the drivers I look up to are always in different countries.

ok i did a little mile long track today that my friends showed me and i can tell you now some of the most fun i have ever had in a car

i didnt push it to much do to the bad wheel bearing but i still did push it let me tell you awsome the car handled great and everything

me and my friends are thinking about making a video in a couple weeks when i get my bearing fix of my car and some trucks and a baja bug


im not going to lie when i came up with this thread i thought i was going to be shut down fast but i think its been going well

I would love to whomp around in my car if I didn't care for the suspension and structural integrity of it. Perhaps if it was a beater car.

hurry up and get your wrx so you can turn it into a beater car! lol

btw, stock suspension works quite well in a little offroad fun. just really bouncy so you can't really go fast but still gives a similar thrill. structural integrity... well with stock suspension, you can't really do anything crazy so its fine.

My first corolla i went off roading when I went to santa barbra to go fishing. I couldn't go fast or do anything stupid since my car was stock with street tires. However I did run over a big rock that cracked my exhaust and my cat so having an underplate is very recommended (from my experience).

WRC does go to Mexico.

if you wanna play in the dirt, just focus on a front bar, let the rear be a lil loose
