    gun cleaner.

so ive been cleaning my gun after i go shoot in in my room using that hoppes 9 stuff. but it makes my room stink up pretty bad, i ran the fan to try and vent out my room for an hour but i cant get rid of it. i even wipped down everything that touched the cleaner =[.

is there even any other kind of gun cleaner? because i went to 3 different gun stores looking to find a different brand but they all had hoppes 9.

Hoppe's No.9 is a classis stuff - some people like that scent, some don't.

Might try Kleen-Bore - has a "fuel" smell (think kerosene or diesel).

Outers has an odorless cleaner - has almost no smell, or Kroil (a penetrating lube) - sort of like PB Blaster or WD-40. It has a strong following of people that swear by it - I like it because it works wonders on rust/frozen fasteners, but never tried it on a firearm.

sorry this is a bit off subject but i didn't fully understand the statement. you shot your gun in your room and then cleaned it? or you shot your gun elsewhere and came back to the room and cleaned it? i'm assuming it is the second but when i first read it, i thought you shot your gun in your room and my first reaction was WTF???

basement? living room? dining room table (with newspaper down to protect the table)? we clean ours in the living room while watching TV...there's no lingering smells, but i usually keep the fan going while cleaning. i ALWAYS protect the surface i'm using to clean my firearms - either with an old towel and newspaper, or just thickly-laid newspaper. don't clean firearms on a bare surface, since the solvent could easily damage the surface.

the range near me doesn't allow cleaning either. i did layer some newspaper last time but i still got the smell everywhere. is it even toxic? i threw away the box. i just assumed since it cleans guns it would be toxic to your health.
