Someone tried to force his way into my house, Cops aren't helping.

As the title suggests, last night i was gonna walk out to my car to get my ipod out to load some new tunes onto it. and when i do there is someone on my doorstep, im like wtf and ask him what he is doing and he said someone threw a bottle at him off my balcony...of course this was completely bullshit so i told him to get off my porch and try to shut the door he then proceeds to stick his arm into the door to stop me from closing it, so i hit him in the face and close the door on his arm some more and he finally let go. I call the police and they come in and ask me whats going on and i tell them what he looked like, where he went to after, even the license plate of the car that came and picked him up before they got there, they didnt write any of this down and one of the cops ask me "was it the one with the dredlocks" i said yeah and he knew this guy by name because there have been multiple calls involving him. I asked one of the police men if i could file harassment and attempting breaking and entering charges(whatever that would be considered im not sure) on them, he called his partner and his partner came in wanting to search my house. of course i refused because they had no right to search it. and he got big time attitude with me and started verbally abusing me saying that "im not being fucking cooperative" and raising his voice at me for refusing a search. I want to pursue this further but i dont know the first step on what to do. Should I file a formal complaint about the officer who also refused to give me his name and badge number when i asked? I dont know the name of the kid who tried to come in, but if i asked the police for their file would they give it to me? This isnt the first time smething like this happened but the cops were extremely rude to me. Help me =[

i would definitly file a civil complaint.

i also know that speak of other forums on here is frowned upon but a good person for you to talk to about this would be "asian rick", president of corollacarclub.com . he can give you some "better" advice from a law enforcment stanpoint than probably any of us could.

good luck with a positive outcome.

Definately file a charge. As far as I'm aware, officer's are required to give their name and badge number if asked for it.

I recommend the Glock 21. That should stop most people in their tracks. :)

ah, good. i say that only because Glocks are one of those love or hate type of guns...there's really no middle ground. i can't stand them, but i know plenty who do.

meanwhile, keep an aerosol can of pepper spray and a few hockey sticks and golf clubs behind the door in case he comes back.

invite a few friends over and watch the fun unfold.

Offenses will vary by state law, but here we'd be looking at criminal trespass (misdemeanor). He didn't gain entry, he didn't assault you, and he's not harassing you (unless this is a repeating occurrence). Depending on the exact circumstances, a felony burglary charge would be a possibility.

Not that I'm aware of (I imagine it varies by state), but my name is right there on my shirt..

+1. OC spray burns like hell - works, but it's possible to fight through it...just keep that in mind.

If you shot the guy, you could be in a sticky situation..depends on state law, but if you can't articulate a reasonable fear of him for your life/safety and if he's not using unlawful deadly force against you, it might be a tough sell to a jury. Again, depends on where you are. Some places you'd be golden..others, maybe not. You also have civil suits to worry about.

    The Glock 21 is not a small handgun. If he wants a .45ACP that's easier to conceal, I'd suggest a 36. It's only 6+1 (Glock 30 is 10+1), but it's definitely slimmer.

/this is not legal advice, blah blah blah.

this is a repeat offense. he's harassed my mom several times. Im not really trying to conceal a gun. the only time id use it is to protect my self walking to and from my car and i think as long as its in a case i am allowed to keep it in the car? but i have to alert an officer if i get pulled over of it.

Jlee his name was on his shirt, but it was a small name tag less then an inch thick and i wasnt exactly in his face when he was talking to me so i couldnt make out what it said.

    EDIT:
googled an image for you [IMG] you can see how tiny the name tag on his right side is.

Then it may fall under your applicable harassment statute - depends on how exactly your state laws are written.

FWIW, if you're going to carry it to and from your car, you still need to hide it somehow..unless Colorado has legal open carry. However, it's not typically a good idea to advertise that you're carrying, so I'd still recommend concealed.

I appreciate the Google, but I'm familiar with the nametags.. :p

It's worth a call to the PD..they may or may not release any information- if they have an ongoing investigation, I doubt you'll get anywhere. You could certainly address your concerns regarding the officers that responded, though.

For home defense, theres nothing better than a 12 guage with 00 buckshot. Check out the Mossberg 500 or Remington 870 with short barrels.

heh well i wasnt sure if yours were the same i wasnt trying to be a wise-ass, just trying to explain how hard it is to see their names. and it was last name first initial. i thought concealed carry was illegal? im not exactly sure on state laws either. I was actually looking at a shotgun today because this gun shop near a friends apartment is going out of business. but thats kinda rough to carry to and from my car.

Jlee: I think my dad is in contact with the officers who responded, the police wouldn't release their names to me because its not my house its theirs...idk...

EDIT: picked one of these up today http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/8027/dsc1380.jpg

Yeah my friend is a officer and told me that because he wears his name badge and police badge (with badge number on it) there is no need for him to give his name and or badge number.

But yeah some officers are better then others and some are just better at writing cell phone/ stop sign tickets.

good move. now make sure you get some good range time with it to get proficient, and ensure you've got it well hidden at home. also, keep it loaded with both pellet and slug.

the guy who helped me out at the shop was pretty cool, he gave me some ammo and let me fire the gun with the different types. i took your suggestion and go the 00 buckshot because it had a huge spread. im gonna go to the range tomorrow after class.

    good stuff:D

i myself have a mossberg pump sawed off and pistol gripped(sshhhhh!!) pump action with 00 buck. it is the perfect home defence with a sawwed off barrel and the spread of 00 buck, it can be pitch black in my house and all i got to do is hear what direction your in , and your gonna get hit.

as far as pistols , taurus 9mm , and a DE .45 cal. 9mm is ok , but it wont stop some. i like the 45 b/c its big enough to penetrait but not kill the person behind the assailent.

Excellent pick with that shotgun. I have a complete cache of weapons, (everything from $1,000 Kimber 1911 to an AK-47), but the first thing I'd grab if theres trouble is my mossberg shotty.
