Sorry im gonna sound like an ass saying this, but really? are you serious? The article said the family, mom dad and 18 year old son were on the ferry but the mom was still inside the car, which means im assuming they all got out at some point and got back in, meaning there would have been no point to putting on your seatbelt, that being said she was floating around in the water for a good couple minutes before it completely submerged, why not get into the back seat try and open the door or kick out a window? she pretty much just say there waiting to die, but on another note, i sure as hell would of jumped into the water to bash out the back window and get my mom out regardless of what people told me to do! This is just going to be another stereotypical thread for women drivers. Regardless its a sad story.

Certainly sad. But I have to somewhat agree with hummer. With the time she had, it seems like she could have gotten out of the back door. If the doors wouldnt open, she probably couldve kicked a window out. Whats really more shocking is that no one tried to rescue her. Pathetic on all everybodys part.

    POS Chinese government.

Best way is to wait for the car to be submerged, take a deep breath and then open door. opening door when its sinking wont do anything.

The back door was above water...so you think she shouldve waited to be completey submerged?

Just saw the vid and paid closer attention. There WAS some time when the rear passenger door was still mostly above water.... But maybe the impact made her stop a bit to think... Either way, my point is, if she watched that episode of mythbusters, she would have survived - that is, if the doors/locks didnt jam under water and she held a huge breath of air.
