Things we hate about the corolla!

I must say that I really like my corolla, but over the last few years there have been a few things that bother me about the car. I thought it would be interesting to, on a site dedicated to loving our cars, list the things we hate about them. Not things such as lack of power, or that there is about 1foot and a half of fender gap, but these are the things I'm talking about.

    1) no matter how hard you try, you can not keep lint off the interior (in the S model)
    2) have you ever tried to clean your the inside of your cup holders? If you have, you are probally still trying.
    3) the dirty black spots that get on the outside of the doors. I'm not sure if you would notice in a black car, but anyone with silver knows what I'm talking about. My mom gets them on her camry also.

Believe me, I love my car and take very good care of it, but these things bother me. Let me know if you can relate or if something else bothers you.

1.) I agree with the lint, but I have 2 yellow labs, so there's always white dog hair in my car :meh:

2.) At 90mph I get a whistle in the weatherstripping in my driver door (diving across south dakota)

3.) That when you change the vent to floor some air still comes out the middle vents.

    4) The A/C on a hot houston summer day

    body roll
    bad tires
    uncomfortable seats
    pooly positioned pedals
high idle on cold starts (sucks driving with a manual)
    bad brakes
    heavy flywheel
    too soft of clutch feel
    knotchy shifter
    long throw shifter
    rubber pedals
    rear drum brakes

that's about all i can think off.

overall, amazingly well done and complete, especially when compared to similar priced alternatives BUT:

seating is abominable for anyone over 5' 6": there's no excuse for not having an extensible steering wheel in a car with no driver leg room... mandated seating position is "knees wide apart" like that of an adult in a childs pedal car

ditto the flat seat base position... it's necessary to jack up front edge (washers under the retaining bolts) to even have leg support on upper thighs

stock tires are indeed terrible and dangerous in the wet... scrapped them immediately for good wet weather tires

Al thing's considered, it's stil the best value available... even more so with $2/gal gas prices!

While the pedals still suck, I have found a happy medium which gives me fairly good lenght between the seat and pedals so i'm entirely scrunched up. If i could move the seat an inch back and have the steering wheel 2-3 inches closer, it'd be perfect.

Still a good car for the money, especially with a manual tranny. Not the fastest car, but it will surprise a lot of people and hang with cars it shouldn't if there's a good driver behind the wheel.

the only thing i dont like is how the car gets blown all over in the wind. but a tall and light weight car will do that.

i also just noticed yesterday when my subs hit i can literaly see that plastic rear deck cover vibrate up and down. thats just ridiculous... im gonna have to fix that.

slow restarting sometimes when the car is warmed up
windshield wipers constantly throw water spots up when cleaning the windows (have to keep the windshield wipers going till they actually dry out)
can't close the back floor heaters
takes too long to warm up / turning the heat up in winter pulls down the coolant temp
    AND
EVERYTHING ELSE EVERYONE HAS ALREADY POSTED!!!

I hope toyota visits this post, it is a very very good summary of what they need to change to make their great Corolla into the absolute BEST IN CLASS (beats down and then rapes the compeitition).

One word - quality. I've owned three other Toyotas, two of them Corollas, and the 9th gen Corolla is the lowest quality of them all in my opinion. I don't think these cars will last as long as their predecessors.

This is my biggest complaint... the awkward seating postion. What did you do that gives you some more room?

    - interior noise
    - sound isolation
    - no remote trunk release

but what bothers me the most is the interior rattles.

Basically I put the seat back as far vertical as possible. Since I slouch normally, having it as vertical as possibly keep my shoulders and head right up against the headrest.

Then I just put the seat as far forward as I can stand, so my feet arent' completely scrunched and I still don't have any problems.

It's about as neutral as you can get for car control and comfort. If I moved the seat one notch forward, I have the perfect distance from the steering wheel, but my feet become a little to scrunched for everyday driving. So i just leave it one notch back from optimal.

If most people saw me driving, they'd think i'm too close to the seat for daily driving.

I dont have a corolla but my GF does. Ill add to the list of things that I hate about. I have a 03 sentra spec V, it fits me better.

The ride is too "soft" for me. It seems that the car floats on the road than rather to drive on it.

Too much body roll. When I make somewhat a hard turn on the car it feels like the car is about to flip over or something. The fat profile tires dont help either.

The seat sucks. Im about 6 feet tall, it dont fit me right. It fits my gf perfect she is 5'4. Its not all that comfortable either.

    Stock audio system sucks, PERIOD!!

Im not trying to knock on corolla or anything its a great car, just not for me.

Here are some highlights that I like about it compared to my car.

The gas milage. 30/40mpg is hella better than my 24/29mpg but really its 21/27mpg for my sentra.

Beleive it or not, the quality of the interior feels a lot more better than my car. Majority of the interior of my car is plastic and very noisy. In the corolla, it feels a lot more better besides the set. It dont have that cheap feel to it. At high speed there is not a lot of wind noise.

Good turning radius. It can make very good U-turn which makes parking easy. You guys take this forgrated, drive a Sentra Spec V(not the reg sentra) and you will see what I am talking about.
