    Piecing Together a Turbo Kit

I'm piecing together a turbo kit for my 03 auto, hoping to get everything running and boost 6-8 psi for less than $500 (doing everything myself). I know there are a lot of expensive things that should force me to spend more than that, but I'm doing everything the cheap and dirty way and I'll be taking lots of pictures and, when finished, I'll post up a step by step.
I've spent a lot of time researching what I need to do and how to do it, but I have a question or two I can't seem to answer. Wondering if you super and turbocharged guys could help me out.
First, our oil pan is completely full while we're driving around, so people like crovax who've gone turbo have tapped the block for the oil return line. What if I tapped the oil pan like with a normal turbo but had a reservoir between the bottom of the turbo and top of the pan. In theory the oil would gravity-drain into it, de-foam a little bit, and slowly trickle down into the oil pan. So, the reservoir would take the place of the unused capacity in a normal turbo car's oil pan.
As I figure it, the extra capacity in, for example, a CRX's oil pan gives the foam coming from the turbo room to settle back down. Our problem is that we have no extra capacity and the foam, since it takes up more space than normal oil, would back up the oil return line to the turbo and fry it. So what if I use a reservoir to act as that extra space? I'm thinking a cylinder shaped like an inline fuel filter with a capacity of a pint to a quart.

Second, how does our MAP sensor react to boost? Do you turbo and supercharged guys have a different one, or is the stock one able to understand boost? I've seen some Honda guys bypass their pressure sensors with check valves that close when boost comes on, and I'm wondering what our solution is.

Third, what kind of fuel management are you using? I know the supercharged guys have a fifth injector in the intake, but how is it boost-referenced? Also, crovax, did you use your stock injectors when you first started boosting? If so, what kind of fuel management did you have? (I found the post where you talked about it and linked to e-bay, but the auction page was expired).

Thanks for your help everyone, I'm very serious about this project and have already bought a lot of the parts. I've spent countless hours researching how to do this, but I'm hoping you can fill in a few of the gaps in my knowledge.
I'll return the favor when everything's set up and running well by posting a detailed how-to with pictures and prices.

I tapped the oil pan on the passenger side (the side next to the wheel) It works fine, I've had it almost for a year. I'm using stock injectors right now, with a rising rate FMU and an inline fuel pump. My MAF sensor works fine with the 8psi I'm running. No check engine light!!

Thanks a lot for the info.
So as far as fuel management you're able to run 8 pounds with just a boost-referenced FMU and inline fuel pump?
And the MAF sensor doesn't freak out under boost?
That's music to my ears, cause those were the two things I was still unsure about.
One more question, though, how many liters/hour is your fuel pump?
And you're not running an AFC?
    Your help is much appreciated

    Oh, and one more thing,
How much extra pressure does your FMU put out per pound of boost?
Thanks a lot for your help

I have no AFC, I'm saving up to get a Apexi Power FC.....Way better than emanage and Safc......I don't know how. I'm using the stock fuel pump, and inline fuel pump under the hood. I don't know how many liters/hour it is, and I don't know much extra fuel the FMU dumps. I got the FMU and Inline fuel pump from Stafford. I'm going to get rid of them when I get the Power FC.

What's your setup? Sorry if I missed this before, but I'm interested. What turbo and manifold did you use? How's your A/F? Any dyno numbers?

I have a Garrett T3 turbo, I got the manifold from Stafford Fabrications. I haven't taken it to the dyno yet, because I've had a really bad exhaust leak since I put it on, which will hopefully be fixed in the next 2 weeks when I fab my 3" exhaust from the turbo back. I don't know about my a/f ratio either, I'm gonna have to wait untill the Power FC so I can adjust it and everything.

I'm really curious on your A/F ratios and your numbers. If I miss it, please PM me the details. Thanks! :)

I'm starting to think about going all-out on my corolla too. I dont think ill be able to create my own but was wondering if we could use a turbo kit from the MR-S since they have the same engine as us? I've been looking at the Power Enterprise's tubro kit.

    Questions:
Is it worth it to get a turbo on an automatic? I have an auto too so im curious about others opinions
