Another Tire/Rim size thread

Now, before I get flamed for starting another one of these threads let me asure you that I just spent all afternoon reading the 77 other threads that I found when I searched the topic and none of them gave me exactly what I was looking for. So anyway here goes...

Rim:
I intend to get an 18"x7.5" rim.
I know that the lug pattern needs to be 5x100

I do not know the proper offset..... ?!?!?!

Tire:
By using the tire calculator I've found that:
currently - 195/55-16
should get - 225/35-18.... To keep the same aspect ratios...Right?!?!?!

Then of course I have to consider the rubbing factor which is all inclusive in this whole purchasing venture. Keep in mind that I have the Tein S-Tech's. So, in summary... If I get an 18"x7.5" rim with 225/35-18's with my S-Tech springs... what offset do I need and will this be the ideal setup?

225/40-18 would be a better fit. The TRD rims are 18 inch and come with 225/40-18 tires. Why not ask them what the offset is?

Thank you for the link.... as a side note, what width are the TRD rims? Are they 7.5" also or are they something different? I'll have to send them a message and see what I find out. It just seemed that according to the Tire size calculator that 35 series tires would be a closer match. Thanks!

You can always ask TRD what the rim width is as well. Both 225/35-18 and 225/40-18 are recommended on 8 inch wide rims, so chances are the TRD rims are 8 inches. If you go with 7.5 inch rims your tires will end up being slightly narrower than the TRD tires.

As for tire size, here are the tire diameters:

185/65/15 - 24.46 inches (stock CE tire)
195/65/15 - 24.98 inches (stock S/LE tire)
195/55/16 - 24.44 inches
225/35/18 - 24.20 inches
225/40/18 - 25.08 inches

If you've got an S or LE, 225/40 is clearly the better choice. If you have a CE, the 225/35 is closer, but smaller than stock - I would still go with the 225/40.

I've got an XRS and it comes stock with 195/55/16's. Maybe someone who has the TRD rims could also chime in here and let me know what the width is. I'm just afraid that if I get too much tire then I will have rubbing issues. I have Tein S-Tech's, so it's got the most aggressive drop available for our cars. Too much meat = rubbing

Look through some of the older posts here. I seem to recall people having rubbing issues with S-techs and 225's. Why not go with 215/40-18. That's the right tire width for a 7.5 inch rim.

I just noticed that Rainmaker(from Cardomain) has 215/35/18's... so I think that remedies that question. I still need to find the proper offset... does anyone know if Rainmaker's on this site as well and does he use the same screen name?

the TRD rims are 18x7.5

the tires i have are 225/40/18 on a 18x7.5 rim

big Squirrel's, thanks for the info... you are also on S-Tech's right... and you have no rubbing issues with your setup? If not, then you've answered all my questions and you are indeed the man!!!

i used to be on s-techs, im on tein SS coilovers now.

Did you have this tire/rim setup when you had your S-Tech's on? If so, did you experience any rubbing issues?

on s-techs, i rode on 205/55/16 with no issues.
but at one time, i did ride on 215/45/17 and i rubbed lightly only if i hit a pothole on the freeway hard.

So I guess I'd be best off getting 215/35/18's then. Thank you for all of your input... it has been most helpful!!!

I have tein s drop with 225/40/18 trd rims and it rubs in the back with I have people in there.
I will not get 215/35/18 you are better off gettin 215/40/18 that is the size to go with a tein drop. 215/35/18 is to thin profile you will bent your rims easy

I hope that isn't the case... I already bought the rims and tires... haven't gotten them mounted/balanced or of course put on the car yet... but everywhere I looked and read recommended 215/35/18's. I know of a couple other people that have the same setup... so I hope I'll be fine... just gotta be careful of how I drive now...lol.

that set up will work but will look a liitle werd with the fend gab. you see 215/40/18 tires have more MEAT on them . so your ride with be smoother and more meat mean more protection for the rim. try to sell or return the tires and get 215/40/18 they are a better choice. I have 225/40/18 for the summer and 225/45/17 for my winter and i love that setup but i have to live with the rubbing all the time. next tires i will get 215/40/18
