    Oil Consumption

I am currently using mobil 1 5w30 with the toyota oil filter and since I changed the oil (1400 miles ago) I have recently noticed that the oil level has gone down a bit from the full mark....is this normal oil consumption... there are no visible leaks anywhere....Also, I am planning to do 5000 mile oil change intervals, does this mean I have to top-off the oil to the full mark?? Any info will be greatly appreciated, thanks.

What's your car's total mileage? It does go down a bit initially, then stabilizes till next oil change. Always try keeping it at full mark for best protection and maximum performance.

I have a 2003 Corolla with 43,000 miles. I also use Mobil 1 synthetic 5w-30. The amount of oil to bring the level from the low to the full mark on the dipstick is about 1 quart. I think the acceptable amount of oil loss (burning) is 1 quart ever 2500 miles or so. Some a little more, some a little less. My engine usually uses 1 quart every 5000 miles. When it's time to add a quart to bring it up to the full mark, I just go ahead and change it because it's usually time anyhow. The 1ZZ-FE has tighter clearances, so it shouldn't burn oil very fast at all. It also greatly depends on how hard you drive it. If you hit redline frequently or rev the hell out of it, then you're going to use oil faster.
