    lets talk about noise!

So i am looking into some aftermarket exhaust for "the S." Now i want something that will help performance...BUT i really want to stay as quiet as i can. i don't want loud/obnoxious....my whole goal is to be as subtle as i can. the quietier the better. So on that note....being that in the area where i live, nobody has done anything to there car....so what can you guys tell me?..thanks for all the help! keep 'em rollin.

honestly the trd exhaust is a waste of money!!! i had the same delima as you. i wanted a nice exhaust system that would add horsepower but not have the effect that most hondas get... which is that obnoxious farty sound. what i ended up getting if you read my profile is a flowmaster muffler. it fits on the car perfectly and looks like a stock muffler. i got the cat back system and it sounds really deep and throaty but at the same time it isnt loud and obnoxious. almost every muffler shop in the country should carry flowmaster mufflers. you will feel the difference at higher rpms. unless your worried about voiding your exhaust warrenty then DONT GET THE TRD MUFFLER!!!!

The TRD muffler is excellent, I spent $390 on it and it has been worth every penny. Don't expect much performance out of any muffler. Magnaflow cat-back will yield the best gains,
but IMO the TRD unit sounds perfect. At one point i had a universal muffler, which of course produced the basic, loud, "look i have a muffler" sound. If you get the TRD system, you won't be disappointed.

if u want performance, magnaflow. its really quiet too. even my TRD intake is louder than it. plus its a full cat-back not axle=back like trd or borla. only problem is u have to cut and weld/clam the magnaflow in.

im not really bad mouthing the trd muffler. all im saying is that if you want any performace gain a cat back exhaust is your best bet. it cost just as much as a trd muffler if not less, and you will get the same noise (maybe a little less) and the performance aspect as well. honestly i like trd... only its too damn expensive!!!!!!!

now that ive heard the sound clip of the trd muffler i am more satisfied with my choice of the flowmaster exhaust. the trd muffler sounds good, but i think my exhaust sounds better.

I personally love my magnaflow. I just got the universal and removed the resonator all together. Everyone has told me my car has a distinct sound but not farty rice rockety. ya it still has a good sound and all but it is loud. My advice is not to remove the resonator.

From what i heard the gain on TRD isn't much but the gain on any exhaust without other mods isn't that much either. For not so loud i would go for TRD. Ya it's b**** because it's so damn expensive but from what it sounds liek you'd be the happiest with that.

With flowmasters i've never been impressed with them on 4bangers. My friend had an s10 with a flowmaster (But he did have a two chamber) and that thing sounds more rice than any other car out there! I do love when big trucks rumble by with flows though. As for 4 the corollas i have yet to hear one.

I used to have a truck and had both borla and magnaflow and i've just preferred magnaflow. Just keep doing your research and and try to see if you can go to a rolla meet in your area. Everyone usually has on different mufflers so thats a great way to get an inperson listen.
