    The better Corolla?

I have a 03 Corolla S and now the new Corolla XRS comes out which I knew it would sooner or later with the celica gts motor. So any way I think I still have the better Corolla. I saw a test did on a Gt Celica in were they put a TRD S/C on it they basically said it had the same hp numbers as the Gts but was quicker because the powerband came in alot sooner and the tq numbers were higher. So I am thinking this can be true with the Corolla also. And the lower compression has to be more tuner freindly. Comments?

I would think the same. The XRS doesn't seem to have much of a future for big horse parts like a S/C. I would see an S being more stable. And yes the lower compression would be more Forced Induction friendly compared to an XRS engine. And yeah the Gt celicas are better for after market because the power band is more well rounded instead of a low range then a huge spike from like 6k-8k on the GTS. Me personally I might get a celica GT engine and get that perdy S/c from trial. They say it runs at 14 PS. Whether thats the same as PSI or a little different. But it seems to be beasty enough to have a intercooler setup.

You guys make some valid points. But, there is no denying that the XRS is a nice car right out of the box. 170hp, 4 wheel disc brakes, 6 speed, ect. Add some TRD springs, and TRD 18 inch wheels with a 225/40 tire or a set of Matrix 17's with some 225/45's and your ready to go, without the hassle of the S/C's price and install.....IMO.

if u were racing on a high speed track, i'd say XRS, but if it was ur daily driver then i'd have to go with the S since the 2zz is so lacking in torque... but if u were just an all around cool guy who appreciated the finer things in life then i'd have to say '86 GTS :D

Another nice thing about getting the S is that, If you get a good deal, a S/C S will cost much less than an XRS. And it will be faster too! :D An XRS around here costs about $19,500.

Ok I checked my stealer's website, and they are letting go of an XRS for $17,100. I saw that they have an S for $13,500 with sport plus package. So $13,500 + $2500 = $16,000. Use the $1100 left over for a nice suspension and there you go... XRS killer for the price of an XRS...

 Very true indeed. But I currently have the 2ZZ. So, maybe I can help sway the balance some.

There is nothing sweeter than hitting LIFT and hearing the 2ZZ at 8K. It's such a tight, solid motor all the way to red-line.

Its just so much fun here in L.a to pull up to an s and just take off and hit lift. Or when I'm getting on the freeway and it feels like a small 6 cylinder. Don't hate on the xrs it out performs my other car 2000 toyota celica gt in about 95 percent of everything. Thats okay if there's no aftermarket There's enough room for a custom turbo.

well i dont really see why we all hate on the 2zz so much. the xrs has just as much torque as 1zz corolla plus some 40+ hp.

Personally I think it's the valve timing. VVTI is more of a broad range for the entire engine range where as VVTL-i Concentres more on higher rpms which makes it basically worthless for low end torque  . But yeah I like the XRS's. Not that many around here so I like seeing some every once in a while

Well let me see here since I have both a 1zzfe and a 2zzge imho I think that the 1zzfe does has a broad torque curve so does the 2nd gen 2zzge the only difference is the lift at the end it's like having a 1zzfe +40, same torque curve, plus more on top. Toyota designed the xrs to have a more nid range torque curve, it's not like the celica or matrix 2zzge.

For '04, the torque curve for the 2ZZ was adjusted. Peak comes in at 4400rpm. Where as the '03 2ZZ peaked at 6800rpm. So believe it or not, the '04+ 2ZZ has as much on the bottom end as the 1ZZ. Especially with 6 close ratio gears. I've had 2 1ZZ powered cars....'03 base Trix and an '04 Rolla-S. So, I'm qualified to make the comparison.

The Matrix as always had both power plants. So, they are both accepted. Surf around on www.matrixowners.com and see. But the '03+ Rolla has only had the 1ZZ. Embracing change can be tough.

Nearly everone here has the 1ZZ. So, I can understand the huge support for it. But the fact is the Corolla now has 2 available engines. Embrace it my friends  .

Love it. This is my second one. I had a Rolla-S for a while. Nice car. But, I really missed the flexible interor and unique style of the Trix. Plus it easily carries my 2 year old and all of her required stuff. Since it was my second time around for the Trix, I figured I would go all out and get a loaded up XRS. No regrets at all. But since it's really just a Celica GT-S powered Corolla wagon, I thought I would stick around here. I mean it is a "Corolla Matrix" according to the owner's manual.

WTF well I cant wait to compare the Corolla S running a full race preped 20 psi boosted engine to a XRS. I was just thinking the TRD s/c S and the xrs are about the same price and hp just wanted to compare the two. These are all dealer cars with warrenties not track tuner cars.

u guys forgot.. that the XRS also has 4 wheel disc brakes and better suspension, seats, and interior gauges... also with a 170 HP engine.. and it's onlly like 2k more then the corolla S.. so in the long run it's a better deal because your getting so much for just 2k more
