    MR-S Project Car

ok, this doesnt have anything to do with corolla's but... i have a friend who found me a gutted mr-s who's back end caught on fire but only long enuf to destroy anything plastic (including ALL the wiring back there) the owner wants $600 for it which includes the 18's that were on it (thats right, 18's on an MR-S  ) anyway, i've been trying to find prices for all the parts i'd need to replace in order to make this thing drivable again to see if its worth it, but i'm not havin much luck, so if yall could help me that'd great! so, i'm gonna need basically every hose that goes in the engine compartment, a new wiring harness, new front suspension (not just the struts and springs) rear bumper, convertable top, center console and at least one seat :? prolly gonna cost quite a bit, but as long as its less than a used one i'll be happy

I think, though I could be wrong, that 600 is a bargain for just an MR-S engine...much less an entire (albeit burnt, but definitely fixable) car...

Probably be about 5-7K worth of Toyota factory stuff. I'd rather go with racing seats and a Power-FC computer and all that crap since you have to replace it anyways

That motor and tranny is worth more than $600 so you are getting a good deal.

shoot...if you dont want it...I"LL TAKE IT!!

it is gonna cost you a grip... but remember... they wont be sending the MR-2s here in the US anymore.. so in the long run when you spend around 12K on that thing(3SGTE)...it'll be a beauty...

It's one good deal! Those 18's alone you can prolly sell for 600 if they're in good condition. hmmm... just make sure you get all the proper paperwork for it... what if its stolen? hahahah

i know, this is a crazy deal... apparently the guy has to get rid of it soon, so its either sell it or crush it. if i could get my hands on a fairly cheap 3SGTE i'd definately go for it, but do u think a twenty yr old student can cough up 12k? :? my first priority though is just to get it driving and at least primered so it doesnt rust, but after that the sky's the limit

ok, i've got an update for yall

well, apparently the guy at school who was the middleman in this deal decided he would take a course long break from school and i just happened to not have his phone number. he was the only link i had to the guy sellin the car, so it would be an understatement to say that im pissed. i think homicidal rage would be more accurate. if i cant get his phone number thru the school then im just gonna have to search the entire south side of town, but i WILL have that car or else i'll tear out his heart with my bare hands!!! :x

why cant things like this ever go smoothly???

What kind of MRS is it? Its not the newer modle with the 1ZZ engine is it? I hope not. If it is the older modle with the 3S-GTE then that would be pretty sweet. Will the car need a paint job too thou since it burned?

The older modle MRS's look a lot badder and meaner then the new ones too, I love there body style. They can be fast little cars if tuned right, and the mid-rear setup gives you good handeling and aftermarket suspension goodies will give you great handeling.

the MR-S is this latest model. the older ones are plain old MR-2's. the S is for spyder.

anyway, its gonna need a paint job, and it does have the 1zz in it but i'm thinkin about droppin a 3sgte into it ( gonna be a looooong time before i can scrounge up the money though  ) or i may just turbocharge it and go the big bore route... nothings set at this point

Ok I personally dont think its even worth it to buy the thing then, if its only got the 1ZZ.by the time you restore the car, i think you could find a used one cheaper, and then it wont have a salvaged title too, so it will be easier to sell it down the road. But you could probably get away without getting a salvage title for it if your doing the work yourself. I dont know about you, but I dont care much for the new bodystyle either, I prefer the older style much more. Paintjobs are expensive... I bet you could easily spend 9-10k restoring this thing by the time all is said and done. You could probably find a nice used one for that, but then you dont get the fun of all that wrench turning, hehe.

Well in the end its your decision so do what you feel is right, but thats just my 2 cents.

well i havent seen the car yet but according to the guy, it already has some choice parts on it... cf hood, turbo, 18's and stuff like that. im thinkin just primer for now, and either stickin with the tubo'd 1zz (the turbo on it's prolly toast) or swapping in another engine, say a 1mz or 3sgte

Electronics souldnt be too bad if you get the Engine, complete wiring harness, and ECU, then its just basicly a complete swap.

    ok, update for my update:
i talked to the middleman today and he said that the car was bought by on of his friends cuz we took so long findin each others number, but his friend already has a JZA80 thats pushin like 800hp and he's almost outta cash and doesnt know enough about cars to do his own work. so we're thinking that we can talk him into sellin me the car for around $800 (cuz i dont think he'll let it go without turnin a profit) but at least it was saved from the crusher. oh yeah, aparently the guy actually still had the front suspension, it just wasnt on the car, and i found out the cars sittin on coilovers, plus the guy that bought it already replaced all the hoses and stuff under the hood. so IF i can get my hands on it all i need is a wiring harness paintjob and interior... why cant things like this ever go smoothly???

updating the update which was an update to the original update:

well guys and gals, looks like i wont be getting that MR-S after all. i was sitting around waiting for class to start and we started talkin about drifting. we blabbed for a while and then one guy said he had a 240sx that was a rolling chassis that he'd sell for $500. so i said cool and we started talkin about the car and eventually he said he could sell me an engine and wiring harness with it for a total $1500. so i of course said "why thats very cool" and after a while he comes up to me and tells m that he called a guy he knows and now he can throw in a manual tranny for the same price. the only real problem with the car right now is that one of the cams had a lobe round off so im gonna have to get a new set, and the wiring harness is gonna have to be modified to work in the car. the wiring harness is gonna have to be modified because it attaches to the SR20DET that he is gonna put in the car  otherwise the car is bone stock, painted primer (mostly) has a few dents, no dash (but all the leads and accessories) and mirror tint. and hes not just gonna sell me the car, hes gonna help me get it running again and it also happens that he is quite a proficient drifter, which i believe because all his other claims proved to be true, such as his 240 drift car that i managed to squeeze myself inside... so anyway he's also offered to help me learn to drift. so in a few days i will be the proud owner of a primer gray 91 240sx soon to be powered by an SR20DET... so screw the MR-S and the guy that managed to loose it for me! this is a much better deal anyway :D

omg!!! this foo!!!! lucky mofo!!!!

I'm glad that this is all workin' out for you man! (not really...cuz i wish it was me... hahah!) like what they say...there's a reason for everything. at first you were feeling down that you couldnt get the deal with the mr-s.. and hey...look which door just opened for you.. a freakin' 240 with a possible sr20det and a dood who's hella cool and willing to teach you how to drift. wtf man... im jealous... just shows that everything does happen for a reason. even though sometimes you feel like down cuz you didnt get what you really wanted, you get something in return even better.

i was about to(or at least planning to) buy an 1985 corolla GT-S earlier this year for 3G's. test drove it and everything..was pretty quick for a blue top 4a-ge. he claimed to have dropped a new engine after the first one had blew. ordeals with my parents happened and they didnt want me getting it. so i was sad and in grief for a while. a few months later, my friend tells me that the car's "new" engine had blew while the owner's brother was racing it. so good thing i didnt buy it or else i wouldve enjoyed it for only a few months. my friend ended up buying the rolling chassis for 700 and now he's putting in a new engine. gonna produce 190-200 whp. =)

i know, its crazy how things work out huh?

no not a possible, an absolute certainty! i saw it, i touched it, i twirled the valve cover on my finger! :D (red top by the way)

oh and i found out today that UTI has an AE86 that collision's gonna use as a training aid to practice fixing the body and painting, but i'll see if i can talk to somebody about buyin it so i could help out somebody on here (wink, wink)

whats he gonna drop in? a 20valve? that would be a killer engine for that car!

    sick!! :p

im not really sure which engine he's swapping in, but its a TRD head and block with 0 miles. and plus... get this.... SMOG LEGAL! so it cant be the 20valve unless he has an egr valve. i'll ask him when i get the chance..
