hey guys!

i just got my car back last week after getting the TSB done for a new Catalytic Converter and newly programmed ECU. I never had the Sulfur smell that some may be experiencing, but my VIN# happened to fall in the category. So I got it done, and now I get better fuel mileage.

As soon as i got into my car and drove it off..i noticed something really different about it. A slight step on the accelerator and my car gave a quicker and stronger jolt of power. I was thinking that the cat and the new ECU could be the reason for this extra performance but I was also thinking that the dealer could have just adjusted my throttle cable. I've tightened the throttle cable before but it did not have the same results as this.

Hmm...so did i really gain more power? is the the ECU allowing more air into tfhe engine and improving its performance? or is this all psychological??? :?

Anybody else get the TSB done? what are you results? :?:

I don't think you are getting any more power than you had before since they reprogram your ecu to inject less fuel to the mix, and the new cat I'm just guessing, is even less free flowing than the original because it has to filter out that extra sulphur and what not. You should get slightly less power if anything. The sharper response might be due to increased backpressure with the new cat in or it just might be your mind playing tricks. :wink:
Post up your new gas mileage when you get the chance I'm sure many of us will be very interested in that, including myself.

whats a tsb and what do mean by getting it done? When i rearended a truck last christmas, (note, stock corollas cant beat stock focuses) i got it fixed at the dealership and when i got it back, the throttle response was a lot better and there was alot more torque, but that didnt last long.

tsb= technical service bulliten. when ever a car company finds it has wide spread problems of its cars it issues a tsb to tell dealerships how to fix it.

it depends which focus it is.

It was a sedan, the guy driving it made a bich move. I was on the inside lane, and up ahead someone was waiting in the median to cross it, it was a truck and its rearend was sticking out in my lane. Saw that i want going to make it, so braked and waited for the focus to pass me ( note i was immature and stupid then). Instead the focus purposily stayed side by side with me so i couldnt change lanes. then bang. Story of my life.

As for the tsb, how do i konw that i qualify? and what wouild they do to my car? and what would it do performance wise? I have a 03 corolla bought in aug of 02

Some people have been saying that after the TSB service for the sulfer smell, that they have been getting better MPG. Actual figures of the changes would be good. Can anyone provide?

Also, does anyone know how this service would affect engine life (increase/decrease/no change)??? And why???

yeah, i'm curious to know the improvments of the MPG. Before and After. I'm still at 34 MPG right now and I don't want to do the TSB and have it go down more. My VIN# is before the TSB so I know I should do it. But if I go from 34 to 37+ mpg then I'll do it right away!

where would we get the tsb vin #'s so that I can see if my car is on the list? My CEL came on and I got the P420 code running lean or bad cat but that was like 10,000 miles ago and it has not come back since reseting the CEL. But I usually get about 300 to 340 miles in city like driving. I am not sure if that is good, probably not. I have AEM CAI. The car is 03 and 5 speed.

I'm interested to see if the changes get RID of the smell.

I'll stick with the old ECU cause I have a full custom exhaust so there isn't much smell, if any.

You have the TSB # because my corolla is only driven on the highway at an average of 65-70mph and the damn thing wont get any better then 28mpg. plus i get that sulphur smell alot.

Today I got to the Half way mark on the tank and I had gone 239 miles. To do the TSB or not to do the TSB, that is the question :?:
