The REAL fuel consumption rating of a Corolla (excl. XRS)?

In the 2005 Toyota Corolla brochure (Canada), the Corolla CE/S (excluding XRS) with MANUAL transmission fuel consumption rating are :

City : 7,1 L / 100 KM (40 MPG)
Hwy : 5,3 L / 100 KM (53 MPG)

Is it the true reality? What is YOUR real stats in true driving condition?

It REALLY depends on how you drive, and for daily commuters how good/bad traffic is.
I get between 6 and 7.5 L/100Km in about 30% city 70% highway driving (60km a day).
I think that works out to 31-39mpg.

I know in Canada there's some 'approved' way to calculate such things....and it's been my experience that it'll be pretty close to what's shown on there, unless you drive really aggressively (or, if you drive like a real wimp, it'll be better than that)

how do you guys manage to get such accurate numbers on how much mpg you people get? Are these just rough estimates or what?

To make it more clear for me, on all day driving (mixed hwy & city) how much miles or kilometers (don't care) are you running with a full tink of gas? I assume you didn't suck it to the last droplet (probably around 45L on 50L).

easiest way to do it dimsum is to run it just to where the light turns on, fill up as soon as you can from that point.
reset your trip odometer, and keep your reciept
run it to just where the light turns on again

you just ran x miles on y gallons of gas

miles/gallons = mpg

In the summer I get about 580 km out of 38 liters of gas. That's about half highway half city. Driving just highway it's about 660 km/38 liters.

In the winter the mileage drops to about 450 km per 38 liters.

That gas light thing isnt too accurate since it'll turn on or off depending on slope, temperature and altitude I think. I know this because sometime the gas light turns on and then when I start the car again it's off.

Ive tried to take estimates from the half point but it seems that it may be inaccurate because the top 1/4 of my gas takes forever to drive off but the next 1/4 goes quick

iono i average 26mpg cuz i fill up to full. and from full to about where it almost lights up, its about 10.5 gals to fill up and i only get like aroudn 260 miles. i heard that the new TSB for the corolla makes the fuel mileage better. ask TheDruid cuz he did it. i saw his gas gauge from full to about that first dark line at 150 miles. then he said a bit bellow the half-way, its at 260. so thats a good sign

There's not traffic in canada... thus.. having better miledge...

My gas mileage is poor both hwy and city, and I don't stomp around on the accelerator or anything. CorollaAltis do you know which TSB it was?

I live in Canada and there's traffic...

I get around 6.75L/100km (without a/c) to 7.00L/100km (with a/c) in combined city/highway driving. Thats with CAI and some hard driving on a 5 spd CE.

jk. I don't know how or where anyone got the idea that there's no traffic in Canada.....you might as well tell me there's no traffic in michigan.

Rush hour traffic is so bad up here that sometimes I don't want to leave work at 5:00 but stay until it clears up a bit. Stop and go is brutal with manual transmission. I usually leave a lot of space in front of me and try to idle in 2nd or 3rd gear although it pisses some people off.

I calculate mileage by writing my odometer reading on my receipt after I fill up. When I get home I put all the info into an excel spreadsheet. I just filled up today and put in 39.77L. My odometer reading was 28042Km so minus the reading from the last fillup means I went 638Km on 39.77L.

that's where I work...and I know what it's like. Luckily for me, I do shift work, so I either get in while people are working, and leave long after they're gone; or I come when people are leaving, and leave when everyone's in bed...
It's a whole lot better than rush hour traffic.

I'm always so very amused by the kind of people who say things along the lines of there being no traffic in toronto (living in igloos will never get old, though...)

just drove my car on a road trip.... got almost 600 miles on a tank... the actually division ended up at like 45 miles per gallon. i usually dont run the tank all the way down but i had to see how far it would go... took 13 gallons to fill it.... good thing i stoped lol

Why dont u just fill up, then reset ur odometer to zero. Then when it is time to fill up again, dvide how many hours u driven since ur last fill up, over the amount of gas u had to fill up the second time.
I did that and i averaged 32.5 mpg, thats kinda bad, i dont know how i got that either. I was being extra conservative too, I tried to brake less, and stayed within speed limits. All i have is an sri. and my car had that sulfur smell a lot when i first got my car. But its not there anymore. Any suggestions as to y i have a low mpg?

oh, but shobatt got like 45 mpg. I live in houston, and i use my a/c 24/7, guess that may be a factor. Anyone here that lives in houston, Felt that cold front yesterday morning? man it was a cool 91 degrees.
