    Engine Options

Alrighty, I've gone over my options for engine modification, but since it's not Specific I'll put it in general discussion  So the main 3 options I can think of are. I can just supercharge it, pulley system, water coolant, etc. I could get a turbo kit from a custom shop not far from work. Probably a Modified Celica GTS Turbo kit, Custom exhaust, the whole deal. Or I can go the big route and get the 3SGTE and to all those bells and whistles. Upgrades galore, yadda yadda, 11 sec quarter mile. So I would like ot ask for some opinions on what you guys think. Although I don't plan to do any engine mods for a while I'm curious as to what my fellow Rolla Riders think :D

Honestly a turbo system would work well also, but the most power will probably be from a 3sgte.

the third gen 3sgte is what 260 HP, and was never released here in the us.

its going to cost thousands to get that thing in, and it will be illegal almost everywhere since the engine is older than the car.

i vote go S/C or MWR build the 1zz and go with that.

That was my only real concern with the 3SGTE. The 3rd generation needs I believe an EGR and another car. But yeah the price to fabrcate it all and I could make a downpayment on a house  That and I was never much for drag racing. I just saw a bunch of fast cars at work and ideas went through my head. Although the S/c is the probably "best" idea being it'll still be under warranty and all. But the hp gains for close to 3 grand just doesn't seem worth it to me. Not against all you s/c users. But a nice Turbo system would give me an excuse to put an intercooler upfront and maybe some dual 2 inch piping. That and for pure street purposes there wouldn't be much use for hp over 350 or so. After that you're getting a lil out of hand for daily driving. Or maybe it's because I got in a close call on my way to work. I mean real close. Didn't affect me much until I realized if I had all the mods I wanted now I couldn't have pulled off the slick driving I did :? So i'm thinking of a lower hp more cost effective idea :D

I would go with the TRD supercharger. Reason being is that It is made specifically for the 1ZZ and It is covered under warranty. With turbo, you will have to beef up the internals for nice boost. Without that you risk blowing the engine (unless you keep a low PSI). 3SGTE would be nice, but would cost a lot for the conversion. If you are really going to spend that much money I would sell the car and use the money to get an S2000, 350Z, RX8, EVO, STI, ect... or like you said, put a nice down for a house!

i have supercharger personally, it will not give you the power you want..

if you want fast... i would recommend you to rebuild your engine with the big bored kit from MWR (from 1.8L to 2.0L) and have MWR to build you a turbo system.

check this out.. MWR's turbocharged 1ZZ-FE MR-S.. dyno at 356 wheel horsepower..

this will be the cheapest way to have a 350+ hp corolla..

I'd go with the turbo kit cause you can run 250WHP for a daily driver with no internal modifications and then go "all-out" later on if you choose to.

A S/C is great for a daily driver that you have to sit in traffic with and want TQ available instantly.

The 3SGTE swap would be a drag only type of car, not really a daily driver if you ask me.

I'd say go the supercharged route.....wouldn't the corolla have traction problems with 3SGTE engine since it's fwd?

yeah if u really mod the 3sgte to its full potential u'll have major problems getting traction, plus the swap will cost almost as much as ur corolla did

    Re: Engine Options

how come you'd get a modified celica gts turbo kit? Its not even the same motor as the corolla..anyway, if going the turbo route you'd be better off getting it totally custom (or a modified mrs or celica gt kit) or getting something like the SF kit or if you want more serious power (and have the money) go with what hooolala said.

I actually contacted a shop that custom fabricates turbo kits and modifies them. And he suggested the GTS, for what exact reason I don't know but the guy is a professional so I'll trust his word until proven otherwise . I don't plan to run high Psi. Being it's a daily driver and the stock engine anything above probably 8 would be pushing it. As for traffic, I'm in it a bit going to and from work. But I'd probably get it set so it won't really kick in until about 3 grand or so. And yeah the S/c to keep warranty is a nice idea, but 3 grand for 40 hp isn't worth it to me  That and unless I'm mistaken doesn't the MWR bore kit make it barely below 2.0? like 1.9 something I believe. Unless I'm wrong, in which case you can correct me :)

thats probably wouldnt work out though. Best you could do is AWD, since the 3sgte isnt design to have anything besides a transaxle.
