    03-05 Corolla Front Speakers

I've seen the DIY speaker articles that have you leaving the factory speaker shell in. When you do this, is that for mounting a 5.25" or a 6.5"? I'm going to replace all speakers and Crutchfield does not show any 6.5" sets for the front. That could be because they assume the factory shell comes out and you use their mount bracket. That might make the mounting depth too deep.

Anyone with an 03-05 Corolla that mounted 6.5" components in the front? What did you use to mount them?

i used 6.5 in the front because thats what fits up there. you just follow hte diy on this website. you cut hte old speakers out and screw the new ones in. easy as that.

The DIY shows the install with 6.5" speakers and no bracket. Crutchfield say the fitment for the front is only for the 5.25" with the bracket.

    Hmmmm...

So I ordered the 6.5" and no bracket. I'll try the DIY way. But first I'll make sure the cutout is 5". So if I change, I can drill out the rivets, mount the bracket, but still have a hole big enough to support the 6.5" speaker set. Mounting depth is slightly less for the 6.5 vs the 5.25, so that won't be an issue.

Here's a shot of a 6.5 inch component mounted in an MDF adapter. It's a pretty solid install. The problem with the DIY on this site is that there's not a lot of material to screw the driver into. I'm not sure it'll stay in place too long.

Now those are decent looking mounts. The ones from Crutchfield didn't look any better than the DIY deal. I see the three point mount to the door where the rivets were, but little in the way of mounting the speaker to the bracket. Thats why I skipped it. But I think I'll look around for bracket similar to yours.

Home Depot - you have to make it yourself.
