    Serpantine Belt

Is there a DIY to change the serpantine belt in our corollas? Mine squeals bad when it gets wet.

it's very easy.......like a 10 min job. If you look on corollatoys. it'll tell you how to do it.

Well, my next door neighbor recommended that I try some belt dressing since I don't have any cracks. He says that is supposed to moisturize the belt if it's dried out and stop the squeals. I went and got some and sure enough that's what it is supposed to do. I followed the directions and now it squeals louder than before. Does this sound right??

how many miles do you have? I couldn't see the cracks on mine till i took it off. I'd just replace it if you have over 30k miles.

Hehe, my Corolla is approaching 50k miles. I bought it last May with 25,700 miles. I drive that thing everywhere, mostly highway.

I've been quoted anywhere between $20-30 for the belt alone. I looked at the repair guide at Corollatoys and when I was looking at my engine today I noticed how big of a pain this will be to replace.

I got my belt for 20 bucks and it honestly took me 7 mins to do. You'll need someone to help, so one can pull on the tensioner and the other can swap the belts. But honestly you could be a car idiot and have little trouble changing the belt. There's ample room in the engine bay, I wouldn't pay anybody to do this.

Do I need to take the engine cover off to do this? I was reading on the repair guide that I would have to. I'm pretty mechanical and I know if I follow the routing diagram I could do this.

No, it's hella easy. I did mine by myself when I put my UR crank pulley on (new shorter belt is needed). It took me about 15 minutes just cause it kept falling off, lol.

It's really easy and if I had a hook-up for my computer to my camera, there would be a "how-to" for the crank pulley :?

I'll try and get some pics up in a couple days, PM me about it to remind me
