I agree. The Corolla XRS may fill the void in a more affordable package... The MR2 hasn't been available in Canada for some years now.

Yes, the price was getting high for what you got. But these models were around for decades. I guess the reason that the Celicas were not selling as much might be that Toyota didn't offer a ragtop. And I really doubt that the same drivers that would pick a celi would pick a tc (the intended "replacement"). This also looks like Toyota is not going to bring the Supra back from the death.

the only way they can compete with other cars is to bring back 3S-GTE onto the celica and put 2ZZ into the MR-2... but.. i wonder why they won't do it...

dead is the incorrect word. they are still going in japan. toyota had this plan to kill the celica for US market 2 yrs ago while they are deciding to make the scion brand.

while reading this article, toyota has done the same thing in the past with the new lexus launch. the Toyota Cressida was the f lagship of toyota before lexus came out. but as soon as lexus launch with the LS and ES, toyota knew that the Cressida would tap into Lexus sales. its not going to be the first. The supra continue on till 01. that was the last model supra to be produce.

yeah the celica was wayyyyyy overpriced... i think the GTS's i saw at dealerships around here were goin for like 25g's... and the GT wasnt much less

what they should have done was make the celica rwd with a large displacement, high reving four cylinder and offer a trd turbo kit, but i guess the guys running toyota dont like going fast

25 grand for a GTS? People are crazy to get that. I would rather get an SRT-4 for less and will have no problem outrunning a Celica GTS.

just like what i said, toyota should bring 3S-GTE engine back to US.. 2.0L turbocharged with 230hp, easily goes up to 300 to 400hp..

for 25G.. i rather put 3k more down and get a EVO

but.. good thing toyota has the Tc now

A while back ago the Toyota salesman told me this would happen. Guess he wasn't lying.

Another good thing is that the Supra will be back.

what i heard from my salesman's boss was that Toyota will bring back GT2000 and the new Hybrid Super car "Volta", he told he know it because he went to the Toyota meeting in Japan. he also told me GT2000 will sell around $40,000 and Volta will be around $120,000.

fot the amount u'd pay for a GTS u could get a entry level luxory sedan with a v6 something like a G35. u might have to put down a few grand more but still. they were very badly priced from a consumer stand pont. i mean its not a vette that only older buyers are gonna buy.

the 'volta' IS coming out for 2006 model.

it has hybrid engine with almost 400 hp and goes 40 mpg.

0-60 is about 3.8 sec. and price around $60000

i got the info from reliable source...

hope they don't cancel that at the last moment.

as for celica and mr2... i think toyota are moving all those to sporty cars for 'y' gen. to Scion.

i won' tbe surprised if tC was actully celica replacement.

A good question is if the target audience for the celica will still want to buy a Tc. Do you think that the same buyers of a Z convertible will buy an Audi TT? The cars have two different target audiences, and whoever doesn't want a Tc will probably get a Eclipse or another "Girl" car. And yeah the cars are priced above their competitors for the power that they bestow. You can't tell me that quality is gonna overprice a car.

hmm..the toyota supra has held it's value pretty well over the years. Do you guys think the celica and mr2 will hold it's value decently after production ceases? Or just drop off significantly?

the year before the GTR,S15,Rx-7 and supra ended. People were thinking the japanese super sports cars were dieing off.

They don't make the silvia anymore. They don't make the GTR anymore they don't make the supra or rx-7 anymore. Kinda sad if you think about it. now the celica and mr-2 are dieing off. I could see the wrx and evo being the next targets

Is the dealership just jacking up the price? The MSRP is 25,325 on the GT-S Action Package (Auto, take 700 off for a stick). Maybe this is why people aren't buying them also, the dealers are putting on an extra K or 2 on the MSRP. The GT manual is 18K MSRP, I wonder what the dealers are quoting them at?
