Question for the REAL AUDIO PEOPLE

My pioneer h/u only has two outputs: Front & Sub, My quest.is, if I split the front output to run a 4 channel amp, will I suffer any negative concequencies??? The amp is only 400watts, I am only using it to the front and rear speakers. Thanks

Re: Question for the REAL AUDIO PEOPLE

Most likely no negative consequences other than having no fade control. If you can tell me the output impedance of the head unit and input impedances of the amp channels, I can tell you how much signal you will lose.

either way if you split an output you'll loose 3dB (best case) of signal. may or may not be an issue, depending on the input sensitivity of the amp in question.

My guess is that the signal loss will be 0.75 dB - that assumes the input impedence of the amps is 10 times the output impedance of the head unit. Theoretical best case is 0 dB loss and theoretical worst case is 6 dB loss.

it is a Pioneer H/U( it only has a output for front and Sub I had to split the front outputs b/c the amp is a 4 channel) It is a VR3 400 watt amp, as for how it is connected, I am not too sure what you mean, I have the speaker wires coming straight from the amp, just a normal left and right, front and rear connection?? OR are you talking series and paralell?

Pioneer makes a lot of head units, my friend. Which one?

And by how it's wired I think he was referring to something along these lines

Left Out -> Amp -> left front
    -> Amp -> left rear
Right out -> Amp -> right front
    etc.

or whatever it is that you have

it is a DEH-P3500, like I said I had to split the front output, so it goes: left to left;right to right, and the amp then has left and right RCA inputs, then I have all the speaker wires coming from the amp, is that good enough???

Can you draw a picture of your setup? What speakers are you using?

I am using Audiobahn 6.5 components up front, and audiobahn 6x9 3way in the rear, the model number is AS690 for both, as for the pic, I will take some but i may have to get someone to host them for me. This is how the amp is set up:

    Line Input: Left
    Right

Front & Rear( Both have the same set up)
    Crossover Frequency Bass Boost Gain
Bass Flat Trebel 30Hz 180Hz Off On Min Max
I have the front crossover set at Flat; Frequency is at 180Hz I think; Bass Boost is off and the gain is on max
The rear crossover is at Flat; Freq is at 180 I think; Bass Boost is ON; Gain is at max
