Widest Tire on Stock Size Rims

Its time for me to get new tires. I'm going with Michellin HydroEdge. My dad's Camry has had them for a bit and the ride/grip/handelin with the tire is great. I have a CE and the stock tire size is 185/65/15. this size is available on that tire but i wanted to go wider. i know a couple of people on the forum have put wider tires on their car with stock size rims. I forget the usernames of all but one was RIck aka fgf001 (might be a lil off) and one was Walt i think. the dude from Montreal. Anyways i wanted to know what size tire did they use and have they had any problem. This tire is a little expensive so if there are doubts i dont want to risk 450 bux. Help is appreciated and i will try to search the forum for this information as well. hopefully i'll be able to get an answere soon but if u have any info please do let me know.

    According to this:

    http://www.michelinman.com/assets/pdfs/doc_hydroedge.pdf

you could go as wide as 215 (215/60/15), but a better choice would be 205/60/15. Stock rims are 6 inches wide - both of these tires will fit, but the 205 will be a better fit than the 215. Oddly enough, the stock 185 tires would be better on a 5.5 inch rim...

Well, I haven't done it yet, but when it's time for the stock tires to go I'm going to go with 205/60/15.

which ones did your car come with?? i had the stock goodyears lately i've been having issues cuz they dont grip good and my tires lock up real easy. I also have a NY trip commin up next month around the 15th so i have to get these changed before then.

Uniroyal Tiger Paws. They're not great, but probably better than the Goodyears. I promised myself I'd wait until they were worn out to replace them. Problem is they're not wearing out and the grip is still OK.

I've been noticing the same with the tires on my 'rolla. It's really disappointing, especially in the rain, for a *new* car to be slipping like that, or for the tires to spin so easily.

I'd like to replace my setup with a set of nicer 17" (or maybe more, not sure, because I don't really wanna drop the car, at least not very much) rims and quality tires to match.

But....these are new fucking cars....that we pay 20,000+ (CDN) for, shouldn't they come with good damn tires?

OEM tires either Goodyear or Uniroyals are really cheap and the handling is really really poor... Why did you putted back your stock ones? You had problems with the Kumbo?

yeah i know i've had a few close calls with the good years and no i have to change mine before school starts. i also got ur email walt and i think i'm gonna go with the 205's rather than the 195. i think the wider tire should help my handling a little bit

Do you plan to lower it ?

It's the best mod you can do on this car.... the handling improvement is crazy event with a light lower kit (like Eibach or TRD).

putting the rolla back to stock form. only thing left that can be seen from the exterior is the drop and grill. nothing was wrong with the Kumho's really. it wasnt great, but it was waay better than stock tires.

Ireplaced the Goodyears on my 03 with 205-60X15's. They are great and after nearly 60,000 miles, still goin strong.

    so consensus..205 on a 6" wide rim...just making sure but a 215 or 225 would be good alright on a 6.5"?
