Any 1 here with Automatic Rolla's have a TRD or AEM Intake?

Are there any corolla owners out there who installed a CAI or Short Ram on their Automatics? If so, I was just wondering what kind of performance gains you noticed? and were there any dramatic sound changes with the new intake?

You will get a deeper sound when you floor it and the car seems to be more responsive.
I'd say not as much gain as manual, but definately you can feel the difference.

Cool thanks for the response. I wonder if anyone else here on the board drives an automatic with a CAI.

Did you reset your ECU after installing your CAI?

Yup, I think you have to, cause your going to be taking out the Battery in order to get the Install right.

i have an auto with a cai also... u will love the sound but i dunno bout the performance gain. i think u just want to believe there's more gain than there actually is. if u also go to a 2.25inch exhaust there will be a noticable power difference. i need to find a stock rolla to race against just to make sure though

Lol, i've been soo looking forward to installing my CAI, and can't wait to see what happens. Being on this board can really suck the $$$ outta you haha...it's a good thing though =) we're just all big kids who grew up from playing with Transformers to the real deal!

I have one as well... definitely sounds nice at full throttle... i feel there's less torque in the low end. My GF has a stock Corolla S, so when I switch between driving the 2 I feel there's not as much "omph" in my car, compared to hers. But she does have alloy wheels and i have the steel wheels.? I got the in intake so I don't have to replace the filters.. Just wash and dry and go. =)

I'm putting in the AEM short-ram (that is, as soon as it gets shipped to me) on an automatic, so I'll let you know.

I bought and installed an injen cai for my automatic and i ended up cutting it and making it a short ram. I liked it better than a cai. The cai made the transmission shift a lot just by stepping lightly on the gas. i think the cai benefits more if u can get ur car up to the higher rpms, so i perfer short ram now. U do feel a little omph with the cai but like someone said, its a psychological thing, u feel like ur going faster...works for me, heh

Hmmm, guess i'd have to wait and see for myself. I only rev up my rpm's to 3 cuz i don't wanna overwork my engine and burn too much gas. My question is, Once my CAI is installed will i have a really notice a change in Low end power? like from 1-3 rpm's?

If you want low end power, I recommend you go with the short ram. Because the CAI has a longer pipe, there is a little lag before it gives all it can.....You get it's full benefits at high RPM....Since the short ram is shorter, it will help you more in low end power.

i dont know everytime i let off on the gas and stepped on it again, it would down shift every time, it was kind of annoying i didnt even accelerate that much, but then again u dont get that much with any kind of intake anyways

question, i guess once I get the CAI installed, should i hop onto the highway asap so that I can accelerate at a fast pace in order for my ecu to keep that setting and also to have the best benefit of having a CAI? do any of you recommend that?

I suppose you could do that ... but it's not like the first 10 minutes is going reprog the whole ecu ... it just accounts for air flow and stuff ... if you wanted you could just accelerate hard for about 50 miles or so ....

if the car feels like it's shifting maybe it's just the extra push ... i don't think it's changing gears... take off the o/d and see ...

My car shifts kinda rough and i don't like how it doesn't downshift even when i floor it... sometimes it holds the same gear and tries to accelerate... something must be wrong...

I notice that too sometimes, and it doesn't shift when it should be shifting gears, it sounds like it struggles on a higher gear just to gain speed when it should just be downshifting one gear in order to gain more speed b4 shifting up gears to quick.

Wew ... I thought it was just mine... i know that not downshifting to first is ok ... but sometimes it seems like i'm pushing 3rd flooring it when i'm going 45 ... go figure... either that or it downshifted.... but 2nd gear doesn't pull for shit and it's at 3k rpm

*i'll buy the intake if it does make it shift... haha

Most of the time it was quite the opposite when i had the cai. Whenever i was driving and ease on the gas, not flooring it, the car would downshift and u would feel alittle kick. But sometimes i would have ur problem, but if i step on the gas for a sec then let off on it and then step on it again, it would downshift.
honestly i think those with autos would benefit more with a sri. I cut my cai into one and i was more pleased. u cant keep ur car in the high rpms in an auto and a sri improves in the lower rpms. Plus its louder so u feel like ur car is faster, heh. Thats my reasoning, i might be wrong. just try, u can make it back into a cai by buying an extra coupler

just my 2 cents automatic is for more comfort thus not to much power=(

even u put an intake.... if i do an intake i would just pop in a drop in air filter

that is usually what i do in my automatic tranny cars

i agrees with zhen, the reason why my parents got me an auto was so anyone in my family can drive if they wanted to or needed to.

    Vibe with Injen cai

I have a 03 Auto Vibe with an Injen cai inatalled. Except for trying to get the filter on past the fog light it was an easy install. On a Vibe they claim to give you 5 lbs. of torque and 8 hp. The low end is better right off idle and the top end is much better than before. Gas mi. is as good as before and I can go up hills(Altimont Pass) in overdrive where before I had to shift down. I also have a CARB# for it so I am legal in CA. :D

Re: Any 1 here with Automatic Rolla's have a TRD or AEM Inta

Okay, I now have it installed. I haven't really noticed anything on the performance side. As far as I know, the AEM SRI adds about 3-5hp, so something like that is going to be pretty hard to detect. As far as sound, there's two things. One is the distinct hissing as the intake draws air in at startup, and the louder, more aggresive tone whenever I open up the throttle. That's all I've noticed so far.

GUESS WHAT! I Finally got my TRD CAI installed! I must say the engine does sound deeper, and as soon as i start up my engine, i can hear the sucking noise kick in for like 2 mins, then goes away. My ecu is still setting itself up to average out the best way to perform? But my question is, do any of you hear a TICKING like noise? is that normal?

The ticking is normal and you will hear the sucking in sound everytime you start up your car, at least if your engine is cold. Both are normal.

yea i do notice a nice gain in the lower rpm region. But find that sucking hollow air noise a lil bit weird once i start up my car then goes away after 5mins?... im sure everyone else has this too right?
