CF hood. How much lighter than stock?

Just wondering. Is it whole a lot lighter? or just for the looks?

a CF hood would look badass on the dark grey corolla - I think CF hoods and trunks and stuff look shitty on most any other color...

Re: CF hood. How much lighter than stock?

If it's a single sided CF hood, then it's for looks as it's probably 10-15lbs lighter than stock. A true CF hood (CF frame, no fiberglass) is about 25-35lbs lighter (depends on the hood size and stock weight).

Both are for looks, but a true CF hood does have a nice weight drop as well

i think a cf hood on my white rolla wouldve been real sweet...with black altis grill, black headlights, black sidemoldings, black side mirror, gunmetal rims, cf tails, black toyota trunk emblem. it wouldve all matched the color scheme perfectly.

There is the CF hood available from vpower. But if you're interested, VIS Racing has an OEM-style CF hood available now. It's not on the website but I had David (vpower.net) get them to make one for me. It'll be arriving this week. VIS Racing has some of the highest quality CF hoods on the market.

That's the hood I like to have for my 03. Is it available at all? Someone offered me a regular CF hood for the 03 Corolla with no scoop for $180. I'm thinking about getting that down to $150 if I can. Do you think I should get it? I have a white Corolla though, and the CF kind of clashes with it, huh? What do you guys think?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. I think darker color Corollas would look much better with a carbon fiber hood. I'm going to go ahead and turn down the offer for the hood then and save some money.

That car looks sweet, but I do hope that in the next year or two there would be more hood options.

Now, I'm considering the option to have a custom mold for a scoop like that picture on the previous page (the blue Corolla). That way, I can keep the white color. Does it really help with the cooling of the engine bay significantly?

Can't the opening in the hood be used to draw outside air in to the engine compartment and help to ciruculate some of that hot air? KInd of like Z3 fenders and things like that. Like putting vents into the hood to circulate some cooler outside air while driving to the engine bay. That way, it helps to reduce temp. from the bay.

You know how hot it gets when you drive right? When you open the hood after that, you can feel that hot air especially with the supercharger in there creating more heat. I was just thinking if there were some "vents" or scoop in the hood area to draw in more air, that may help relieve some of the heat that is couped inside the engine compartment. Not the engine itself, just the compartment area. I don't plan on using it for intake or anything like that. No performance involved, just want cooler air coming in. You know what I mean now, right? I know it may not be too significant, but it helps a little bit and looks good at the same time.

I have heard that vented or more open Cf hoods can cool the engine a little bit or let out more excess heat than non vented ones. I'll probably get a vented one if they're made by the time I get my lil "project" done away with. But then again a black CF hood might not look good on a brown car, I'd have to see how it looks first. :D

the point of functional hoods like that is to get more air flowing thru the radiator

Yeah, that's what I had in mind too. A hood that has vents of some sort or functional scoop. I see some cars with those vents on the fender, what are they called? M3 fenders or something? I forgot, but they look pretty good and could let some heat out of the bay.

Z3 fenders, the lil BMW things. And they can help with heat too I would think. Not as much as a vented hood but a little. Although I usually only see Z3 fenders on show cars

I know those Z3 fenders are widely available for the CIvics. How does such a slow car have so much aftermarket parts? Yet, so few for the Corollas? I think the Corollas have been around much longer than the Civics and we still don't have as much stuff.
