    need head unit suggestion!

which head unit will provide the loudest/clearest sound? has to be $500 or less.
would need it so that music with heavy bass sounds good/clear.. i primarily listen to alot of hardcore/metal.

I've seen some cars with a unit where you press a button and a LCD comes out and opens. I thought the car had a regular music headunit havent seen many of those around anyone know what thats called and about how much that runs?

    sorry for the newbie questions.

    thanks.

Bass reproduction is never a problem for head units - the cheap ones often do have slew rate issues, so they can struggle with treble response. Bass response is detemined more by the speakers. What speakers are you planning to install.

for starters I want to get a nice head unit.. then alittle later replace speakers and then maybe amp. But i want to make sure the headunit I buy I wont have to replace in like few years to buy a 'better' one. I need one that will last and be powerful etc. Alphine? Pioneer?

anyone know of a good double din? I think a double din should fit nicely and has a good visual appearance..

I actually own a new Blaupunkt Monte-Carlo MP34 CD/MP3 headunit. It's a very cheap HU and the overall quality is excellent, the sound is awesome too. It fully support CD-R and CD-RW, MP3 and WMA and it read ID3TAG MP3 files infos. Blaupunkt's HU carry a standard TWO (2) years warranty while other brand only carry ONE (1) year. I pay 280$ CDN for (taxs in). I'm a totally satisfied customer! :)

I'm partial to Kenwood. My friend just installed a newer Kenwood in her Accord, and it sounds wonderful. I'll find out what model it is.

I just upgraded my HU and all my speakers. Yes, a nice HU will make a big difference even on stockers but like oxymoron said, the speakers is where it is at. I hear notes and sounds in my music I never noticed before because the stockers are paper cups that sound like they have a nice bass until you realize it is just at the expense of everything else.

I upgraded my HU first and all I got was the same quality but louder.
Upgraded the 6x9 4ways with a 2 channel amp. BAM! Now there is clean base AND mids and highs.
Upgraded front components with a 2 channel amp. Now when I turn up my stereo my whole car rocks and the sound is so amazing that it's a whole new driving experience.

Next to do is upgrade my HU to a nice Kenwood and then add a 12" sub to round it off. But speakers make all the difference in the world. Research on Crutchfield...buy on Ebay. That's what I did. 8)

I agree with everyone else, although... speakers aren't going to do the job if you're wanting the full spectrum of sounds. A good HU and speakers will make everything sound clearer, but don't expect the bass you can get from a subwoofer.

If I were you, I'd go for a cheap (but good) MP3 player, all new speakers, and if you need more bass.. spring for a little subwoofer.

is there any good double DIN's out there? Im thinking since the new rollas have this huge spot would maybe look more cosmetically appealing if I get a double DIN. Ive heard from some people saying the quality is usually not as good as a single HU. Can anyone suggest a good double DIN where I wouldnt lose quality in sound etc.?

I just move my Blaupunkt Monte-Carlo MP34 into my Chevy Blazer winter truck and get a a brand new Panasonic CQ-C5310U CD/MP3/WMA deck for my Sentra. It was simply AWESOME!!! UNBELIEVABLE!!!

    Summary :

    - 3 sets of pre-out @ 4.5 Volts (Front / Rear / Subwoofer)
    - 7 bands Equalizer fully customizable (not fixed values)
    - Ajustable high-pass crossover for speakers outputs
    - Ajustable low-pass crossover for subwoofer output
    - Subwoofer gain level adjustment (volume)
    - Fully motorized flip-face w/ adjustable viewing angle
    - Support for CD-R, CD-RW, MP3, WMA
    - Read and display ID3TAG informations

I pay 289$ CDN for... it's almost the best headunit for price over the market. It have the same technicals specs than Pioneer, Kenwood, Alpine of more than 500$.

    Here's some pics :

    Hah! that's funny.

I just bought that exact same headunit on the weekend for my Corolla.....sounds great so far.

I, however, paid $219 + 2 year extended plan thing + taxes - though, it was open box
