    clear corner warning!

i just got pulled over today for having clear corners. the cop asked for amber reflective lights or some bullshit. be careful especially in the fremont, ca area. i think its a fix it ticket, but im not sure how to deal with this problem. can i just buy reflective amber and stick it on the sides of my car? or do i have to spend TONS of money on new headlights and make sure they are LEGAL? i thought clear corner were ok in the first place, as long as the turn signals were amber. ive done some research and the stuff they sell on ebay (halos) ALSO have clear corners, but they are street legal. Please help so i dont get bit in the ass by the po =(

    Re: clear corner warning!

Yea, just go to AutoZone, PepBoys, whatever you prefer and buy the adhesive amber reflector. Also, if you want to take it off after you get it checked (best place to put it on is your bumper I think), just remove half the layer covering the adhesive and do it right before you go in to get it checked. HTH.

anyway i listened to pkpss its a temporary solution, better not get pulled over by that ass again...the cop was all telling me it had to be fixed TODAY! and was like..no have to replace with stock lights...hella bs..power trip..theres seriously no difference between those sold on ebay (halo projectors) and clear corners except those have rings.

It should only be a fix-it ticket fine which is $10. That $111 is bs...

i've never heard of anyone being pulled over before for clear corners. I've heard of the blue light turn signal but not the clear corner. i checked the CHP website and they don't mention anything regarding the clear corners. They mention all the other mods including the windshiel washer LEDs and the tire LEDs. The only thing i didn't know that i found out is that you have to have red reflectors in the rear.....my tail light covers coverd that up i think so i wonder if that means i might get rolled on for that.

the law here (which probably is similar in a lot of areas) regarding the front headlights is..amber signal light, amber reflector on side of the front half of vehicle...and the housing needs to be sae/dot approved. if you wanted to remain legal, get the amber reflector and just use the adhesive to stick it on the fender or something.

Dang that sucks....You guys think it'd be a problem to have clearcorners up here in British Columbia, Canada?

How do you plan to argue that? Just by stating that there is no mention of clearcorners not being streetlegal?

i dont think they ever did..they didnt ever come with amber light..your stock bulb is amber. they dont come with any bulbs...the ones they were 'supposed' to come out with included the amber sidemarker.

how weird i got stopped when i was doing a photoshoot w/ my friends. he has cleared corners and i have black housing headlights. both corollas and the officer dind't give us ticket for not having amber. he walked around the cars to see if everything is legal and only found that our front license plate is not on. we explained that we juss did it for the photoshoot and our plates are inside the car and showed it to him. he let us go. haha he even said "why are u guys taking pictures of toyotas?" we're like wth? its better than taking pictures of hondas rite? haha

i checked the chp site as well, but i found some stuff here
    http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/displaycode?section=veh&group=26001-27000&file=26100-26106

under 26101..i guess you can't modify your housing from stock? i really dont think ALL cops care about this, its just the one in a hundred that are so anal that they give you tickets for the stupidest shit. i guess this cop doesn't get good lovin from his wife or somethin and jus unleashes his fury onto us car drivers =(

im thinking either getting reflective tape..sticking that on below..or clear/white reflectors...cuz amber is so ugly on the front especially when the whole point of taking out the clear corners was to keep the front looking cleaner.

I'd try to find some other case law or something to use becaues judges alway hear the excuse "I didn't know" and ignorance of the law is not an excuse and the police not pulling you over before is like duck hunting, sometimes you get them and sometimes you don't.

ive been doing alot of research on this forum, and i have mixed results. some say some kind of amber/clear reflector is needed to keep it legal, others say as long as theres a yellow bulb or the light blinks white or yellow its legal. hopefully this cop doesnt show up to court so i can get this whole thing dropped, or else im going to need to come up with things to say to the judge. help guys? :(

the orange im pretty sure is the amber..dont get the clear..you can try using the ignorance defense, but also add the you chaged your have since complied with the law by putting the reflective tape. show pictures of your car being legal...all this may not work, but it wouldnt hurt.

I took the liberty to check the CA laws for you. This is some of what I found:

    Reflectors on Front and Sides.
24608. (a) Motortrucks, trailers, semitrailers, and buses
80 or more inches in width manufactured on or after January
1, 1968, shall be equipped with an amber reflector on each
side at the front and a red reflector on each side at the rear.
Any vehicle may be so equipped.

    Vehicle Reflectors
    24609. ( ) (a) A vehicle may be equipped with white
or amber reflectors that are mounted on the front of the
vehicle at a height of 15 inches or more, but not more
than 60 inches from the ground.

    Clearance and Side-Marker Lamps
25100. (a) Except as provided in subdivisions (b) and (d),
every vehicle 80 inches or more in overall width shall be
    equipped during darkness as follows:
    (1) At least one amber clearance lamp on each side
mounted on a forward-facing portion of the vehicle and visible
from the front and at least one red clearance lamp at each
side mounted on a rearward-facing portion of the vehicle and
    visible from the rear.

The whole thing can be found here:
    http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/vcpdf/12.pdf

Basically stated... the officer had every right to pull you over for the infraction. Is it a serious offense that is going to cause harm or injury to anyone... no probably not. Did he have to pull you over for it, well, technically yes... but most probably wont. You can try to fight it, but you are clearly in the wrong. Also, most aftermarket lights will tell you that they are for "Offroad Use only" or "Show use only" and that means that they are not legal. Can places still sell them... sure, because of the disclaimer. Hope this was of some help to you in clarifying the laws. Good luck!
