    Hood Scoop

Hey gang I need some help, see I have a fiberglass hood scoop that I want to put on my car, I want to mold it on not stick it on, but I was told that If I mold it on it will crack. The body shop that would do it, the guy said that he will rivet it on and then mold it, I am thinking about going ahead and doing it, but I want to put it to a vote for further help, thanks gang

If you are going to put a hood scoop on the car than I totally agree that it should be molded in and not just sitting on the hood. The molded look will make it look more like it belongs there. I'm not too fond of hood scoops in the first place though, but if your set on it then molding it is the only way to go.

Thanks REX, and XRS I am pretty bent, I have a short Ram Intake that I want to put the scoop over, My main problem is finding someone that I feel comfortable with to do it. I will be in Texas for about 4 mths, I may try my luck there see what I can find in terms of a good bodyshop

Well, I am going to put some mesh behind it, that should help alot, and also get a stopper made for when it rains and this is still only if I do get someone that I feel comfortable with to do it

I dont think you will get that much water in if it rains, but I dunno for sure. Drops wont hurt, and it really only becomes a problem if its submerged.

I see from the poll that a lot of people are saying "no" to molding the scoop, can some of you give a reason why you think I shouldn't. Thanks

it's a waste of money...........it's cetainly not gonna be something cheap. Not really gonna do much for performance, and could look pretty goofy.

ok, I appreciate your $0.02, however, let me say this, can you honestly put a price on making your car DIFFERENT??????? I don't want my car to be like everyother 2003 Corolla S, right now I am also painting the inside of my car myself, will that be considered a waste of money also?? It may not look good to everybody that sees it, but I really don't care, b/c it will be different, it will be MINE.People can say that it looks "similar" to other cars, but no one will say it looks "Just like someone else's car" But I am not upset or anything, I like to hear what people have to say, it usually doesn't change my mind, but I like to know, so thanks Rolla

I'm not saying making your car different is a waste of money. What i'm saying is, in order to get this scoop to look good there is a whole lot of work involved. They need to put a hole in the hood, mold it on w/ filler, sand it down to get it completely smooth and then repaint the whole hood. It's gonna cost a whole lot of money to put a hole in your hood. it'd be cheaper to just buy a carbon fiber hood. Also what other mods do you have? I'd hope that you'd at least have a drop and some wheels before considering a mod like this.

I originally put no, only because I thought you wanted it on there for looks, but if u actually haave an intake, I have no objections.

Well I am lowered on H&R Race springs, which is about 2'', I don't have any wheels as yet, I am kinda picky; I have a short intake; upper sturt bar; altis grill, with both upper and lower mesh in my front bumper; cleared corners with all silverstar bulbs except my fogs which I am about to mod; shaved backed emblems, also about to get rid of my back "T" and I had an euro shorty antenna, but I changed it out and cut my factory one short. I am in the process of changing the colour of my interior agaiin. I checked around for the work on the hood scoop already, and the price range I am getting including repainting the hood is $300, which I don't think is too bad

mm being orignal is all well and good. But then again it might look kinda goofy. You could make it like some of the Evo hoods and just cut out lil pieces of the hood and vent it. Might look a little more clean cut. Or for that price save a lil more and get a Cf hood. Not many corollas I've seen had that. Well where I live I'm like the only person with a corolla that wants to mod it. So you can do what you think is better but I say CF over a hood scoop. my 2 cents

Same here, the most mods I have seen on a rolla here are rims and altezzas, I also see a few people on the board that have cf hoods, I haven't seen anyone with a hood scoop, that is one of my reasons for doing it
