our cars have timing chains so we only need to change them every 200, 000 KM

I didn't know we had timing chains on our cars. Definitely a good thing because I've always driven cars that uses a regular timing belt and had to be replaced a few times for the life of the car.

Although chains are much, much better, and last much longer they still follow the normal rules of physics. Over time, they will start to stretch out or warp somehow and eventually unusable. I wouldn't even worry about that for a long time though.

From what I've heard, a chain will do a lot more damage than a belt, if it would break.

Engine running the time any belt or chain breaks. Could do any amount of damage.
