    Radar detector recommendation needed!

    Hi, all

First of all, is it illegal to have a radar detector in California? If not, could you please recommend a good one for me? I just got a speeding ticket last week, and I don't want that again. Thanks.

Just FYI, it is not illegal to have a DETECTOR in California, only a radar SCRAMBLER.

Valentine is the only detector with two distinct antennae and receivers (forward, rearward) so that it displays the relative position of the threat to your car (directional arrows). It also shows strength of the strongest threat as well as the number of threats (sources). The units are expensive but they have no competiton. I've been running them in our cars for about ten years with consistent service and performance.

BTW, I recommend the remote display... no lights visible from outside your car. The receiver itself is not detectable with typical "scan" devices used in Va and Maryland. Stealth is good ;)

honestly i wouldnt waist my money on a radar detector. I have one and it works just as often as it doesnt. It kind of gives u the state of mind that you can speed cause u wont get caught. the truth is most of hte time it goes off when its too late. The money it costs for a valentine 1 you could buy some laster jammers that are more effective. Don't forget though even with laser jammers cops ARE ALLOWED to estimate your speed.

no. though the uniden i used to have seemed to behave this way, no where near the warning of the V1.

just be paying attantion to short low level blasts of Ka band. (while hes shooting the guys in front of you)

as for when they leave the radar transmitting, i start recieveing them sometimes 2 miles up the road. way more time than necessary to ease off the gas and get legal.

oh and the bogie counter is a blessing as well. drove past one of those "speed limit/ your speed" things for a week. always 1 radar source. one day came by and the V1 read 2 sources. the law was about 50 yards past the speed meter thing, ready to stop those who were ignoring the radar form the meter trailer. had i had a "normal" detector he would have had me as i had been basically ignoring the "false" alert.

the V1 finds everything, almost to a fault. but id rather have more information and make my own decisions, than have less information.

Let me tell you a story about my Valentine 1 that convinced me this is the best of the best.

I live in SoCal...Corona, CA to be exact and I usually take the Eastbound 91 towards Riverside to get home. One night I was heading home along with a friend of mine following behind in a different car. His car was equipped with the Passport 8500 (apparently the only real compeition to the Val1). We both headed eastbound on the 91 doing about 90 since the freeway was empty that time of night. We headed uphill towards Green River when my detector went of displaying a bogey just ahead. I let off the gas and noticed that my friend continued speeding right passed me. As soon as he hit the crest of the hill he slammed on his brakes. Needless to say it was too late. He was pulled over and given a ticket for going 85 on the freeway (even though it was a bit more). About 15 minutes or so later he pulls up to my house and we discuss what happened. Apparently his detector didn't go off until he hit the crest, where mine went off way before, enough time to slow down to 65 before I hit the crest without braking hard.

Just ask my friend, who now owns a Valentine 1, it's WELL worth the money.

When your detector detect somethnig, do you got to disconnect it ?

Did the police can detect that you got a radar detector ?

i believe you want to know if the police can tell if you are running a detector....

    1) donsnt matter, they are legal here.

    2) some detectors are more visible than others: MORE INFO HERE

The problem is that I'm in Canada so here this is not legal. And I think you got a serious ticket if your caught with that !

    thats what i figured.

the V1 is the least detectable detector out there, but they can still catch you. id recomend a "real" hidden mount, custom mounting the unit in the headliner out of site, and mounting the remote display in a place down low so the lights dont attract attention...
