Painting the pipe of an intake

I recently bought an ebay short ram intake mainly cuz its cheaper and i believe that getting an short injen or aem is no different.. its all about the filter... anyways ... i was wondering if it would be possible to paint the pipe of the intake to a custom color ? ... would there be any pros/cons to doing it ? i just wanna do it cuz i think i'm gonna try to make a simple lil design on it or something ... any thoughts ?

i wouldn't paint it...........you could get it powdercoated though.

It wont hurt anything to paint it, just dont paint the inside of it!

you can't really powdercoat something yourself........powdercoating, is a spray of magnetically charged powder that when baked creates a wonderful strong finish.

yea, powdercoating is not a DIY job. there should be some shops somewhere around where you live that can do it.

Ultraviolet that engine bay is hot.

After seeing that makes me want to paint a lot more parts in my engine bay

Thanks for the compliments. I love purple, so I figured I'd do something different than everyone else.

All the metal pieces were professional powdercoated with candy purple over silver.

All the plastic pieces were painted by myself using automotive grade adhesion promoter, primer, basecoat, clearcoat that I got in spray cans from: http://www.levineautoparts.com/spraycanofto.html
The color is 95-96 Ford ultraviolet metallic. It matches the powdercoating pretty well.

Just a note to anyone painting plastic pieces. To make the paint last without cracking or chipping, use adhesion promoter on the plastic first, then use flexible primer over that. Also, dont go real heavy with the primer or color coats, if you do it will crack.
