apparently the 1zz-ge is a sister engine to the 2zz-ge which was a test platform for the lift as well as the first all aluminum toyota motors. i'm just trying to figure out what the deal is cuz severral ppl are mentioning it as being the engine in the base corolla,'s celica's and matrix's which we know is not true. i even checked the corola and celica engine history from day 1 production and that engine is mentioned no where so i'm a little confused

MR-S is just an MR-2 spyder overseas but i thought they put the 2ZZ in it...maybe i'm wrong. The reason you cant swap the head is the bore and stroke of the engines are different...and the stroke on the 1ZZ is too long for the high redline of the 2ZZ.

    one word "configuration".

basically on and GE head, the cams are wider apart for true performance over the FE which is fuel saving.
