Calling all MP3 head unit owners

Everyone that has head units with mp3 compatibility, please post your model, with pros and cons please. i was considering pioneer deh-7600mp or the 4600mp. alpine is sorta out of the question, a little bit too pricey for me

thats not too bad at all, ok any alpines under 260. but did a comparison between 7600mp and the alpine on crutchfield and the 7600 has stronger RMS power, equalizer bands, better fm sensitivity. the alpine has a few strong points, but the i can get the 7600mp for about $15 more than the alpine

i have the kdcx569 and i have been extremely happy with it. only wish the face was flip down. but the head unit is extremely customizable and the remote is easy to use. could also use an ATT button on the actual head unit itself.

just realized it sounds like i'm talking bad about the head unit. it's very nice and for the price [i payed $215 on ebay - retail was $490] it is extremely good.

I have a Pioneer DEH-P740MP and it sucks for playing MP3s. It takes a full 5 seconds to seek between songs. Once it finds the song it's alright and you can seek within the song no problem. If you play MP3s a lot avoid this one.

My vote is for the 7600 also. It is a great MP3 player. Got mine from ShopHarmony.com. Was very satisified with the service and price. Their current price is $204.00.

I have the Alpine 9827 in my car and it is very nice. It is a big upgrade from my last deck a panasonic one that I blew. I got it for about $210 shipped from ebay brand new. I total love this deck. It has many great feature and extra features that will enchance compressed mp3 data.

It has thing called MX(Media Xpander) which enchance compress data like mp3 and wma formated disc. There are 3 different levels that you can choose from and each level will enchance it in a different way.

The Alpine deck also has the feature of quick load mp3. Many people complain about the amount of time it takes to load up the disc when you first start the car and turn on the radio. Some people said it takes too long. On my last deck it took about 5 sec. to play the first song. On my alpine deck it loads up the disc pretty quick. Also if you like to use the random feature, this deck also has a feature that will search for the next song while the current song is still playing so it wont have a wait peirod before the next song.

I highly recommend the alpine 9827 deck.

But as far the pioneer deck, I havent really used that one. Im pretty sure that it is a good deck. My friend got the 4600, I helped him installed it in his legend. It was pretty nice and had a lot of features to it. But I still like my alpine deck better. 8)

yea i'm gona see wat i can get cheaper now, also about installing it, do i just have to hook up the harness or do i need to run new wiring (for either the panasonic 7600 or the alpine) I think i can do it myself most likely, but if i need to run a new power wire, i'm screwed. Let me know, thanks

also i know someone installed their dvd player in the compartment in the console, anyone know who it was or how to do it, i would like to do that, that way, i can just leave the stock stereo in and when i take the face plate off the new HU i can shut the little flap on it.

I recommend you buy a harness kit from wal-mart(about $5) or an auto store(about $10). With the harness kit you just plug it to the harness in the car and simply match color with the harness from the Aftermarket deck. You might have some extra wires left that you cant connect, make sure you dont need them and tape it up so it wont be touching anything.

As far as the power wire for the deck, you can use the one in the harness. You dont need a power amp kit to run to the battery ternminal because the deck only put out about 22wRMS. Of course I am speaking for the Alpine 9827, not sure about the pioneer or other decks.

the install is very easy in the normal spot you just buy a dash kit and wire harnes from sound domain for about 20$ and there is a diy on double din stereo on this website it will help u remove the old cd player and install the dash kit. After that its just a matter of hooking up the wires to the harness and popping it in. Took me about an hour and a half and it was hte first time i ever worked on a car.

MX Expander is really amazing! If you can... get an mp3 and listen to it on an alpine w/ MX on then listen to it on the pioneer.

if ure worried about theft put like a screw through the sleeve so it cant be taken out without removing hte entire dash (which will be anoying if you want to remove it to install subs or anything to those preouts) or just remove the face plate when u get out of hte car.

i have an alpine and it's "XM Ready" but you still need the tuner and antenna. I think XM ready only means that it can control the tuner.
