'tis cool, BUT, ill take the sound of my car over it anyday..

...not to mention, i think that a modded s/c corolla will be faster than any modded xrs...unless the xrs goes FI

but still, lift kicks ass---pick your poison

"why yes my bone stock corolla/matrix/whatever just beat a mustang/viper/whatever, i think he must have had an automatic for me to win...."

larry has nice vids....shows us the difference between the differences between the 1ZZ-FE SC compared to 2ZZ-GE...but a XRS manual seem to kill the XRSC

Larry's car has some upgrades: TRD CAI, water/alcohol injection, UNI-Chip, full header back exhaust. So, he's putting out a little more power than a "regular" S/C 1ZZ. He ran against another XRS with a CAI/exhaust, and lost. Last weekend, he went to the track on a very hot day with his water injection not working....results?...terrible. When he's runnuing well though, he is pretty quick for an auto XR.

There are so many variables.....one race so and so wins, next time the other guys wins...who knows. I'm sure the S/C 1ZZ vs. the 2ZZ battle will continue. The real competition will be between the Matrix XRS and the new Rolla XRS. Simliar engine numbers, but the Rolla is some 200+ pounds lighter......we'll see.

they may be similar numbers on the engine comin from toyota, but they'll be identical numbers in production. for whatever reason, toyota always underrates the corolla engines (1zz is rated 140hp in celica gt and matrix xr, but 130 in corolla? 2zz is 180 in gts and matrix xrs, but 170 in corolla xrs?) they just underrate it. i dyno'd 122.5 fwhp stock - meaning 130 hp @ flywheel is BS - more like 140

whats the purpose of underrating the corolla's though
so this way toyota can have better sales with the matrix xr and celica gt since they are rated higher HP?
    hmmm...

underrating is always better than overating. consumers like round numbers and if the real hp is an exact number like say 133, 130 may be better for marketing. Plus potential celica owners wouldnt want to hear that a corolla has the same hp and seriously, how many engines do you think make exactly 190 or 225 or 300 or 150 and so on.

It's been a long time since I was here, but the new XRS has brought me back onto the Corolla scene. It seems like so far, everyone is saying that the 1ZZ-FE equipped Corolla is better than the 2ZZ-FE XRS. Base price for base price however, the standard S (for comparison) costs $2730 less than the XRS. For that extra money however, you get 40 more HP, a 6 speed manual as opposed to the 5 spd, 16" alloy wheels, interior brushed aluminum kit, 4 wheel disc brakes, front strut tower brace, fogged out headlights, optitron gauges, tire pressure monitoring system, ect. Buying the TRD S/C puts you at the same price as the XRS, minus everything but the extra 40HP.

Seems like a worthy upgrade to me. Again, considering that I haven't been on here in a while I don't know if there are rear disc conversion kits for the standard corollas, but the disc brakes are a big plus for me. Not necessarily from a performance standpoint, but they look so, so much better than drums.

Basically, given what you get for the price, I think the XRS is a much better buy, even performance wise, than the CE, S, or LE.

I'm definitely thinking about getting one after my Camry, depending on the scholarship situation. Considering that I'm a junior in HS still, I want to get a feel for the college situation before I buy a new car and then risk it sitting home for my freshman year :(. Part of me wants a bigger, more powerful, comfortable car like the Camry SE V6, and then part of me wants something fun and sporty like the XRS. Considering that I'm almost 17, I think I might go for youthful and sporty and spring for the XRS. I know how to drive a manual, but I'm no pro so that's the one thing I'd need to master between now and the end of next year  . Considering it's mission- high strung 4 cyl, 6 spd manual, ect, the XRS is a pretty competent overall package. It looks sporty and yet classy, not cheesy like the Focus or Sentra SE-R. It's got a great interior and great features too. Considering all the little upgrades, the XRS is quite a car IMO.

...college life is great though...I wouldn't give it up for a car....well, maybe for a few select cars, but not for a corolla.

Amen to that, I would kill to be back in high school. 2 More years off college left

I guess if you wanna spend your free time getting wasted then college is an OK place, that's not really my thing though.

First, not to sound bratty, but I won't be paying for my college education. My dad has that privelege, so I'm just trying to budget my coming years financially, and time wise so that I don't get a brand new car and then have to go to a school where they don't let freshman have cars. If I go to a school like that, I'll just keep my Camry and then upgrade to something new my Sophmore year. I'm pretty excited about the XRS though...

It's not about getting wasted, and it's not about classes. It's about defining yourself. I've totally enjoyed the independence, and the responsibility that comes with it. I've learned a crap load, and have had the most amazing opportunities at college.

The new XRS is better, but hopefully, after we graduate from college there will be a good job waiting for us so we can all afford to buy bolder cars, ie Evo 8, WRX STi, RX-8, etc. :D
