    DRL question...

For those who havent disabled the DRLs yet (im just too lazy) when you pull the ebrake up do your lights go off? Mine don't... I was wondering if thats how it is or is my car weird?

also, the DRL DIY where you cut the yellow wire (I think?) and hook it to a switch to enable/disable the DRLs, what if I just cut it and dont hook up a switch? Thanks in advance.

There's a TSB for that particular problem - your headlamps stay on after pulling the e-brake. It's covered under warranty, assuming you have access and are still covered.

Our member CorollasBest is hosting just about all of the TSB's (Toyota Safety Bulletins). If you browse thru his site, click on the "Recalls" link on the left-hand-side of the page and then look for TSB "EL003-03". If you're too lazy, or that sounds too difficult, you can get the TSB right here.

I'd print it out the TSB and bring it to whatever Toyota dealer you've established a relationship with in Italy.

Yup, I've got most if not all the TSB's. Thanks for pointing him in the right direction bimmernut.

Mine do the same thing. Once the e-brake is depressed, the DRL's come on and can't be turned off until the car is turned off. I thought that once the e-brake was pulled up, they should shut off. At night, the lights stay on full power, due to the sensor, even when I pull the brake up. When I turn the car off, they shut off. I thought the TSB had to do with the lights staying on when the car is turned off. Am I correct about this, or should all the lights turn off when the e-brake is re-engaged and the light switch is in the off position? The TSB only says when the car is parked, it doesn't mention about the car being off or running..

My only prpblem with it is that I have to enter a military gate everyday and were supposed to turn off our headlights, I can shut mine off and the guards yell at me everytime. So i need to fix this so that they dont start jacking me up haha

If you have a legimiate reason for disabling the DRL, try talking to Toyota. They may well disable them for you.

yeah...thats the cool thing about DRL's...you dont ever have to touch the light switch! and with the sensor, all the parking lights turn on for you at night.

one reason to turn the DRL's off is for that military base reason...and another is if youre running on Hyperwhite or any headlight bulbs that would burn out faster than your regular stock ones. and another reason is if youre racing in a semi-hidden area with city lights lighting up the street... you'd wanna turn your headlights off so cops dont see any headlights quickly zooming by from the corner of their eye. hahaha... if you guys are from san jose, ca...you know what im talkin about.. hahaha

The other reason to disable DRL's is because you've changed to HID's.

Any input on my previous post about what the TSB is referring to (whether the car is on or off when the lights stay on). Previous post:
