Engine IDLE PROBLEM?????

IDLE PROBLEM?????

I came to a stop yesterdaty and my rpm's fell down to 400 then they went up to 800(normal idle). It kept doing this for like 5 seconds until i turned my car off. Since then, it hasn't done it again....is there anybody else that experienced this problem. I have also cleaned my intake filter since this happened(i only had it on for 10 months...and i have short ram air intake)

happened to me when i had my CAI. to remedy the problem i cleaned the maf and it hasnt happened again since.

many AEM SR owners have been experienced with this problem too, including myself
occasionally the rpm drops down to sth like 400 - 600 right and the car is hela shaking
however i only experienced it after some aggressive driving and came to a stop then it happened once in a while.
like moonshadowmadness said, try clean the MAF sensor
so far i had it for 5 months only happened twice

i had a CAI, i think its the filter's oil that gets blown in and deposits on the maf. the first time that i cleaned it. the cotton swab was pretty dirty. try that it should not happen again. usually it does after you clean and reoil your filter cuz some of the excess gets sucked in.

my car was bone stock and was doing the same thing ater some aggressive highway driving ! i guess it's pretty normal !

even with the stock air box??? hmm....

yeah yeah !!! no cai no short ram ! maybe it doesn't do it clearly like u guys with cai . but my needle drop a bit ( +/- 500 rpm ) and goes back to normal , then drop again , for a few times !

maybe i'm not talking about the same thing , but my rpm do bounce after some aggressive driving !

so, lemme get this straight...i just have to clean out the maf with a qtip?

...but it didnt do it after i cleaned and re-oiled my filter.....i bought a new one so i could drive my car while i cleaned the other one! I ihad the original one on for 10 months and then it did it(with the original one on!)....i think it did it once before when i was pulling into my garage.

the MAF needs to be cleaned with a q-tip and some rubbing alcohol, very little rubbing alcohol. just gently rub the qtip over the maf's black lookin bulb and you'll be golden. if you ask on vvti.net, other gen owners that have MAF's and intakes have similar problems plauging them. when it happened to me the first time i did not get a response on here cuz no one knew but several peole on there seconded the response to clean the maf cuz of filter oil deposits

Are you sure? I thought I was the only one that had this problem. Mine unfortunately has not gone away. Even when I had my car new and N/A. It did it when I had the Injen CAI, did it after my S/C install, and even after I had to have the MAS and ECU replaced, it still does it... :x

does anyone know how much a new toyota MAF sensor cost for?
just curious so that i might buy 1 in case i need a clean 1...

I just installed my SRI today and have the same problem. I'm going to try cleaning the MAF sensor tomorrow.

Anyone else with this happening? It seems like it only happens when I idle for more than a minute. Shorter stops it doesn't do anything. I tried cleaning the MAF, but nothing. I'm going to go in and re-check all the connections and see if that does anything.

I experienced the same thing. My car ihas only 6400 miles on it and everything is OEM. Of course I can't duplicate it at the dealership. What is MAF by the way so I can check that.

MAF is an acronym for Mass Air Flow sensor. It's the gadget attached to the top of your OEM airbox, right next to where the rubber tubing ends.

Well I'll be damned. It was just a kink in the VSV hose. Everything's running fine now.

what happen if you have an intake, its the sensor going into intake

try get some ground wires, it helps big time IMO
