    It's Here Finally!

For those that read the Crazy Shipping Time on TC intake post. We finally got the Injen CAI. UPS dropped it off late yesterday evening. Installation will be later today after work. Check it out...

Man, CorollaManJ pointed the same thing out when I posted it over on vvti.net. I don't even know what the heck that magzine is, scares me a little that you guys know that mag. It's probably my g/f, sister's mag.

Oh, the anticipation is killing me. it's 1:00pm, and I don't get off till 5:00pm, to which it's going to take me about 45min to an hr. to get home. I will have vids though trust me.

Here are a few pics I took during the installation, and a vid after everything was done.

My girl getting dirty too, removing the bolts from the bumper

    Hours later

The was taken by my girls brother. I didn't bother to edit it on this go around. The intake is configured in CAI mode. I tested both SRI and CAI sounds when it was just sitting in the garage and being rev'd. The next vid for you guys and gals will be that of the intake in SRI mode. I have a feeling that it's going to sound louder than in CAI mode. Without further babble....the Video

    Analysis:

At the beginning of the vid, I think something was loose, so therefore you couldn't hear anything going on. Then I checked my piping and connnections and restarted the engine, and Vroooommm.....

Ok, for you that don't have an intake, this thing can whistles loud enough to be mistaken for a BOV. Are they making intakes to sound more like turbo these days or what? Being that this is our first and only performance mod, I didn't really expect to feel to much of a gain. I only drove it a few blocks, I will have to drive it today to get a better assesment of the potential. I will say this though, for some reason it feels as if the engine is not constricted by the red line as much as before. Also, in CAI mode, when taking off in first gear, you hear the whistle of the intake but it's not deep, then every shift there after, when the RPM drops, the intake seems to just get mean with you, and you hear the whistle as you shift followed by a deep groan to which the groan gets louder/higher pitch when the RPM's increase. Like I said before, I will make another video when I convert it back to SRI mode, and see what the sound variance is. I have a feeling that it's going to be a bit louder in SRI mode. The neat thing about it is that if you are just cruzin, you don't get annoyed with the loud tone. It's pretty quite , that is until you step on it, then people are going to be like DAMN! One more note, I also have a 95 Rolla DX that has a SRI on it. When I start my Rolla, you can hear the intake sucking(especially on cold days) like a vaccum cleaner sounds. However, the Injen in CAI mode is so quite at idle, that you can't even tell it's there until you rev the engine and hear the SSSSIIISSH WOOOOOMMM!!!!. When I do a comparison to the SRI, I assume it's going to be like my Rolla, and have that vaccum suction sound upon start up.

Sure, Injen designed their intake so that you can convert the intake into a SRI, or a CAI. Where the main piping stops, you can place the filter there, therefore creating a SRI. Or, you can add the extention pipe that's an inch wider and goes down into the bumper, and place the filter at the end there, therefore creating the CAI. Manufactures are starting to design this way, instead of selling air Bypass valves like the AEM one has from the Scion dealer. To better illustrate here is a pic of just the main piping...

We could have stopped at this point, and just applied the filter. But NOOOOOO....we had to spend countless hours trying to get that extra pipe "TO BIG PIPE" through the "EXTRA SMALL" hole in the fender/frame.

I got a new video that I will put up later today. Stay Tuned...

Editing the second vid now. It will be up in about 15-20mins.

Ok, here is the second vid. It's pretty short, due to the fact that I was the one holding the camera and trying to drive my 95 Corolla DX 5spd at the same time. (Don't try to drive a 5spd, and hold a video at the same time!). Anyways, the next vid that I post will be of me in the driver seat of the TC. Here you go, enjoy...Injen Intake Chronicles 2

yeah, that's more than likely what will happen next. Or we might get them at the same time. Also, if you notice in the vid, when we were side by side the first time, the intial grunt was from my SRI on the video car which was a 95 Rolla DX 5spd. I rev it like a sec. before you here the TC Injen Intake rev. The SRI on the Rolla pales in comparison to the sound of that Injen Intake. You can almost barely hear my intake right before the TC.

It comes angled from the factory.

    Description from HKS website:

Inspired and designed from endurance and GT racing in Japan, HKS developed its Hi-Power Exhaust system for both turbocharged and naturally aspirated applications. HKS has incorporated this new race inspired offset muffler and piping design into many street applications, which offers a greater flow and higher-PRM power gains due to the less restrictive design. This is achieved by eliminating unnecessary bends for the straightest exhaust path.

Click Here for Sound video comparison clips. Although not on a TC, I assure it should still be somewhat in that ball park of a sound.

yeah, that's why there is two of us modding one car, so we can afford the good stuff. anyway, I have another vid. it's a fly by with the intake still in CAI mode. It's to short to post by itself, so I will add the vid of it in SRI mode, when I convert it in the next couple of days. keep looking out.
