    Molding

Hey gang, I have a little somethign to ask. I want to mold a fiberglass hood scoop to my hood, and this guy told me that if I do it will end up cracking, where it was molded, is this true????Also if I was to get a fiberglass hood, would I be able to then add the scoop without major damage to the entire hood???

If you mold a glass scoop into you metal hood it will more than likely crack, maybe not right away but eventually. Especially because the hood is being opened and closed regularly. You would be better off bonding a scoop fiberglass to fiberglass. Cutting a hole for the scoop will not damage the hood. Good luck, hope that helps.

It shouldn't but there is always the possiblity. I would try to find a fiberglass hood (one with a good fit if possible) so you don't have to pay the price of the carbon fiber. I assume that if you are going to mold the scoop in you will paint the whole hood. The carbon fiber should have no problem bonding with a fiberglass scoop. You can check with some local body shops that do that sort of work, especially you might try the corvette shops, this is all the repair work that they do. If you are planning on doing it yourself you might check online (corvette forums, fiberglass suppliers) for info. I have done it in the past, we used epoxy to bond the glass, then fiberglass and resin to mold the pieces together. We finished it off with bondo and body filler. It is a lot of work!
