-DIY- covering dash pieces w/ vinyl instead of spray paint

if you want to add some color to your interior but dont want to paint brand new car parts or you dont have enough money to buy an actual trim kit or they dont have the color you want try this out it wont hurt and at the most (if you want me to ship you some if you cant get it in your area), itll cost about 20 bucks, and thats w/ shipping and if you have a local place they'll probly charge 5 -10 buck for it

First go find da place that sells vinyl like a sign shop or some place that makes stickers and find a color you like (they come in hundreds of em) by about a 3' by 2' piece if they sell it like that

then take off the pieces in the car that you want to cover and take them inside or somewhere out of the car, then find out what the different sizes youl need for each peice, it would also be alot easier to take the pieces apart even more if you can (like the center console doors etc.)

if you look at this picture there are 4 pieces that are narrow that were used to do it one for the top one where the controls are and one for each "door" (dont use all one piece for the top half it will be alot harder, plus ther is a natural line u can use as a guide)

using a hobbly knife or utility knife cut out a peice of the vinyl like the part u want to cover but a inch bigger than it is place the vinyl on the side that looks flatest first then work toward the curves making sure thre is no creaces or bubbles when you get to a curve like the one in the picture bust out moms old hairdryer and aply heat to the vinyl while working it down flat, the heat will alow it to soften and be more flexable and stretchy when your done it should mold around the curve nicely also be patient and take your time

when u get to an edge you can foold it around in the back if you want or just cut it off right when it goes over the edge (thats what i did) also it wont wrinkle when u go around corners if u doin it that way(you'll see what i mean when u do it) when you cover hole just cut it out as clean and straight as you can (to make it look better of coarse) just use these same steps when doin other pieces, make sure u buy a litlle extra than u need so u can redo if if you make a mistake this stuff is really easy to peel off and try again real cheap so dont worry.
i probably redid the middle about 3 time so dont worrry.

thats a great idea man. Its probably easier to put on then paint, probably looks better. lasts longer, easier to reverse if you ever want too. Better then paint in any aspect.

Too bad im just too lazy to do this to my car lol, because it looks great man.

i dont know wbout the ebay one it sounds like there just selling precut stickers and having you pay to ship it, i did the same thing except i had to cut it myself and they were scraps so it was free, so if you have a sign shop near by i would go there and try it you self first, if u dont like it,. it peels off
