    *drool*

I know that VAG is kicking theirselves as the R32 is better performing than the 3.2 TT in just about every category. The VR6 kicks @ss!

And the BEST OEM seats EVER are in the R32! It's too bad the HID's will not be offered...

But I can see the other argument. At $29k it's expensive and it's not nearly as quick as the other two Japanese competitors - the STi and the Evo... Although the R32 is a rare bird and the levels of fit and finish are far above either Japanese car... Plus there's resale - those Vdubbers are quite a loyal bunch!

The R32 is insane! I sat in one at the Cleveland auto show and it is far more refined than the Evo or STi, and yes the seats are the best OEM seats evar!

seems i remember a company doing a golf conversion that basically is this car, except twin turbo'd. it was about $30k for the 4wd/V6/turbo conversion, plus the GTI. So factoring four or five grand for a proper turbo setup, youd have that same beast for half the expense. not to bad if you had the means (and didnt have a GF that lothes VW products.)

Fit and finish may be good, but what about realibity? I had a couple of friends that had very bad expriences with thier VW MKIV, from turbo problems, to coilpack failures, to window regulators to creaks and rattles. Pretty sad when the car costs an arm and a leg and yet left my friends stranded a few times.

The VW R32 is too little, too late IMO.

thats my GF's issue with VW. two bad experiences, both related to mechanical relility with bacically all the problems you listed. looks good on paper, but probably never gonna see a VW in my driveway.

....that and for less money id rather have an sti or evo, and ill bet im not the only one.

I'll give you that one, I'd take the Evo. I'd never buy a VW or any european car for that matter.

If I still had cash for another new car, I might have considered a R32... Unfortunately, most of the dealers have already started lists back in Sept. and they're not selling the car for msrp...

In all fairness, VW doesn't have a stellar reputation for reliability, like some Japanese makes (Honda & Toyota only), but they do make cars that have some soul (unlike most Japanese appliance-like cars). I guess there's price to pay for fun... assuming the reasons for the demise of the 240SX was because of reliability...

I drove a MKII VW Golf GTI and I loved the car. Sure it wasn't fast in the straightline but had plenty of character and soul. The new MKIV Golf I drove didnt, too heavy, understeers like crazy, the VR6 has so much torque, anytime you lay on the gas you get the steering wheel torque steer dance. Bleh!

Now the 240SX only had handling going for it, the engine was a total POS from a truck. What the heck was Nissan thinking? The CA18 or the SR20DET would have been killer in that chassis.

That's what I love about my RX-7. Handles like a dream and the you can't be anymore distinct and unieque because of the rotary engine under the hood. Too bad it's fuel economy rivals that of Ferrari and Lamborghini.

not even an E55 or C32? I'd take an E55 (W211)... 476hp and 512 lb/ft of torque - in "stock" trim. No "M" car can touch those figures...
    Can you say sleeper?

I'm just not a big fan or luxurious cars. Yeah it's fast, no doubt, but not my style

Torque? Does that exist in naturally aspirated Japanese engines?
I'm assuming that the awd would eliminate the torque steer issue, although most awd cars handle poorly... RWD is the only way to go in terms of handling.
