    Looks nice

I like it. What type of adapter will you use. Most of the adapters I don't like. Does it come in all black? And where do you slide in the CD? Does the face slide up?

What do you mean what type of adapter? No it doesn't come in all black. The cd goes in when you open the detachable face, its behind it.

crutchfield will give you one for free. Just a warning OEL displays do poorly in the sun. meaning, it's hard to see during the day.

I got mine done at a place in LA. Not sure what the kit is called but here's what it looks like:

That's where I want to mount it too but not sure how exactly. I want to just remove the whole compartment though. Someone here has that setup with an LCD screen where the OEM HU was and a DVD player where the change would go. I just want the HU above the change compartment.

    I installed my deck myself.

I used a stereo fit adapter that had the deckon the bottom, and the storage pocket on top.

No pics because I don't have a digital camera...but soon.

And no, I have no glare problems at all, the deck is very clear in all light conditions.

    Install kit price

I just checked at Best Buy. The install kit is $16 and the wiring harness is $16. The install kit is made by Metra. They have a web site at metraonline.com but Ithey didn't show a picture of the dash adapter. So it depends how much you pay for this unit on Ebay. If you get it from sounddomain.com it costs $249.95 including the install kit and wiring harness. I have never bought anything from sounddomain.com. I am just using this as an example to compare prices.

BTW does anybody have the Sony CDX-M8800? I know Sony doesn't have as good a reputation but I sure like the looks of the all black unit with no buttons showing. Would look pretty cool in my Corolla.

    Not the right install kit

Ask the salesman about the install kit for your car. The one they had on the rack at my Best Buy was like the one you mentioned and would not fit the 03 Corolla. The salesman talked to the installers and they said they would have to order the install kit for the 03 Corolla.

99-8204 Is the Metra part number. Don't know if this is the same number that Best Buy uses or not.

How does the wiring harness work?

How does the wiring harness hook up? What do you do with the loose ends of the wires? What do they connect to? I assume there is a connector in the car today. I figured the would just be an adapter that goes from one type connector to another. No wire cutting or soldering required.

Got mine and got it insalled!

Got mine on Wednesday and installed it Thursday. I got the Metra install kit from a local stereo store which they had in stock. It is pretty cool. Haven't learned what all the function and buttons do yet. But I did try out ASL (Auto Sound Leveling?) Which adjusts the sound level based on road noise. As the you pick up speed and the background noise goes up the stereo goes up in volumne to compensate. Works pretty well. Here is a photo:

    Yes, installed it myself.

Took about 2 hours from start to finish. Wiring was pretty easy. I bought the wiring harness along with the install kit. The HU comes with a plug and the harness has 2 plugs. You need to connect red to red, grey to grey, grey/white to grey/white, etc between the 2 plugs. All the wires are color coded and you just match up the colors. I soldered them and put heat shrink tubing over each connection. When you are all done just plug one end into the car connector and the other end into the back of the HU and that is it.
