    PC Subwoofer In Car?

So I don't have the 400 dollars to put an amp and sub into my car. But I do own the Logitech z560s. The 188Watt Ported Sub hits hard. So I went to fry's and bought a 200Watt Inverter and plugged the sub into my car. It sounds great!! And so far there are no troubles. But do you guys forsee any troubles in the future? I hope i'm not messing anything up.

    Thanks!

How did you connect the sub into the head unit?

nice... i have been cosidering home subs to coz of good quality....

i'm just concerned about when the temp drops... or when temp goes really hot
the speakers specs will burn out? turn brittle/?

i was also considering the outdoor speakers hehe that might do the trick...
they have the outdoor subs hehe im looking at the bose for some time now

sub and studio spekers that is even waterproof.... i might use my old school rockford fosgates amp and see but just a plan thou

i love the way those outdoor speakers from bose sound even under water display sounded good lol just an idea sub at back and a pair of sealed ones in front under
the dash/ by the kick panels hehe

    pictures~! Ghetto Rigging Sub!

So I finally went home and got my digicam and took pics:
So here's the Headunit ( alpine I love it! ) I took an RCA-to-mini cable and attached it to the subwoofer out on the back of the head unit, and stuck the cable through one of the holes in the back of the mounting kit. Yeah, it kinda looks ghetto. You can see the cable running down the left side. It goes all the way down and I hide underneath my floormats and it goes all the way to the trunk where my subwoofer is.

The power source. Since it's a logitech z-560 speaker, I went out to Fry's and bought a 200 Watt Power inverter for 30 bucks. I attached it to the floor in the back seat w/ some velcro. One end of the power inverter is where the subwoofer plugs into it ( as you can see it's on the right side) And the otherside goes into the cigarette lighter in the center console. I made sure I took out all the papers I had in there ... don't want any accidents now. And finally... the SUB!

As you can see it's a ported sub and it this thing hits hard! If you're sitting in the backseat you can feel the air that's coming out of the sub through the little slits that the seatbelts are connected to. It's crazy.

Mind you I did this because I don't have the 400+ budget to buy a sub/box/amp. In the end the final cost was 30 dollars for the inverter, 5 dollars for velcro. Everything else I already had ( subwoofer and RCA cable ) So I'm a very happy camper.

Do you guys forsee any problems I may have in the future...

Oh yeah the Duck gives me +20 Horse Power

I guess I could also add the four satellite speakers so i'll have an 8 speaker system.... but that'll prolly burn out the inverter

How is the MP3 playback? My friend had a 1st gen Rockford HU with MP3 capability and it sucked ass.

While I really don't care for MP3s (don't really mind shoving in CDs), I really like the blue display vs the 9805 (green I think) which is cheaper. I'm willing to pay a bit extra though if the MP3 playback is "ok" and for the blue display. TIA.

Well I haven't been able to really compare the mp3 playback w/ any other HUs. But I can tell you it sounds pretty dang good to me. It scrolls the track title which is a nice little feature. Hands down i LOVE this HU. the MX feature is the best. Get it! You'll be happy you did. And yea, the blue is really really nice. Way better than the green. Are you in the LA area? I can recommend the same place i got mine.

if you want, I can post pics of it on so you can see the blue

It sounds like the MP3 feature has really improved since the 1st gen ones. The basic problem with his deck was that it wouldn't recognize MP3 CDs. If it did, it would take repeated attempts, maybe 6 - 10 and if it didn't we'd just give up. It wasn't a problem of burning the CD or the media, I'm pretty sure it was the HU.

I'm close to LA, OC to be exact. I've seen them on eBay for about $210 shipped, I think with no harness or kit, but those aren't that expensive anyways. Thanks for your help.

    No Problem

Just to give you an idea
I paid 425 for the Alpine HU and 2 6.5" 3 way Pioneer speakers, and 2 6x9 3 Way Pioneer speakers professionally installed.

About 3-6 months and you can watch the surround fall off. PC speakers are NOT built to take extreme temperature changes unlike Car speakers.

What do you mean by surround? If you mean the satellite speakers.... I don't have them installed. It's just the subwoofer :?

 i'm sure he meant the whole speaks sattelite or sub

they are NOT designed for high heat and cold weather...

not unless u are parked nicely all the time giving the speakers room temperature....

uhm.. no. I'm talking about the subwoofer surround------- the FOAM (sometimes RUBBER) suspension thingy that holds the cone in place. PC subwoofer systems are designed to be used in a mild environment. CAR SUBS have special surrounds and cone materials (ie. rubber butyl, polypropylene, mica, etc) to handle EXTREME temperature changes everyday.

I'm not talking about the "satellite" BOSE Surround thing...
