unless you have completely clear tails it's gonna light up red anyway when you hit the brake. the bulb that's already in there is clear.........i'm not sure what you're asking

He's not talking about his turn signal lights or reverse lights or something. He's talking about the actual brake light. Red is the universal color for brake lighting and is required by the DOT and NHTSA regardless of where the hell you live. It is extremeley dangerous to drive with different colored brake lights for the mere fact that it will confuse other drivers who are EXPECTING red light. But if you throw up blue or something, the brain response time is not fast enough for someone who is accustomed to red brake lights. Basically, if you change your rear brake light, prepare to be involved in quite a few more car accidents than normal.

Do what you want, but let me tell you that if you have an accident, you will be sued and your insurance may not cover you.

The DOT does not manufacturer lights, nor are manufacturers required to emboss the DOT letters onto the lights themselves. Altezzas were never illegal to begin with. They are only illegal in California if they do not have a red-colored reflector in them. Go take a look at the 2004 CVC, Division 12 regarding vehicle equipment. Specifically, check out CVC 25950(b). http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d12/vc25950.htm This also answers the question about having non-red brake lights. And like everyone has already said, you will most likely be involved in more accidents, lawsuits up the butt, and denied insurance coverage due to an illegal modification to vehicle safety systems.

    Excerpt:

25950(b) The emitted light from all lamps and the reflected light from all reflectors, visible from the rear of a vehicle, shall be red except as follows: ...
