    Fog Lights off Parking Lights

Has anyone changed the wiring of their fog lights so that they run off the parking lights instead of the headlights?

You'll have to do a DRL disable, that way wen u click the lights on once, to the white dot, only ur parking lights come on...is that wat u want?

I would also like to know how to setup the fogs to turn on with the parking lights or if its possible to just run the fogs by themselves :D

    Wiring diagram

I'm looking for a wiring diagram, too -- actually, one for an LE. Need to see if the wiring harness for an LE supports fog lights. Where did you find a wiring diagram? All I've been able to locate is the (very expensive) shop manual.

you could always bypass the oem switch and install your own harness/switch

ok ill have to type up a diy on independant foglights but till then i will tell you how:
*your existing foglight switch will no longer be useful

    Items you need:
    1. Foglight relay would work great, if you dont have one you will have to make your own relay harness...if you dont have a harness look below if you do skip to number(2)

Lamp Harness (normally comes with foglamp light harnesses:(
    *12vdc automotive switch
    *30A 12vdc RELAY
*14ga automotive wire - get enough (50 feet) so you will have left overs just in case.
*wire loom to hold your wires
*electrical tape ---- (& connectors if you wish)
*12vdc fuse holder with 15amp fuse
how to make relay harness can be viewed at this site:

    http://www.dimebank.com/tech/WiringDrivingLights.html
    http://suvlights.tripod.com/suvlightscom/images/wireharness.jpg
    http://www.6066gmctrucks.org/lighting/FogLightDiagram.jpg

-You connect your parking lamps to one of the switch wires of the foglight harness.
-You connect the 12v that is fused to the battery
-Connect the 12v (+) that for the "ignition switch" to either your parking lamps or "ignition wire" (must be POSITIVE WIRE....use a multimeter to check for polarity-[negative on vehicle ground and pos to wire...wire that shows voltage when ign or parking lights on is the positve wire])
    -ground all grounds
    -disconnect oem foglamp connections
-connections to go to foglamp from wireharness connect to oem foglamps

    good luck

    Hey DistantXtremes....great diagram http://www.6066gmctrucks.org/lighting/FogLightDiagram.jpg

Some switches have a built in indicator, in other words, a lighted switch. If you have that type, just ground the switch. No need for a separate indicator.

Also, another option is to connect the (+) power lead from the switch, to the parking lamp circuit, instead of the ignition/acc source. This way you can run the foglights along with the parking lamps, and still be able to turn the fogs off seperately if you want. I have wired up many foglights this way. However, for this to work like that, the DRLs must be disabled.

    * Guinea Pigs Needed*

I may have come up with a simple way to control the fog lights completely independant of the main lighing system. By grounding pin 4 instead of running it through the drl controller it should give power to the fog lights at all times.

So... the lights will work with the switch even if the car is off.

Since I have an LE I am unable to try this mod, but if somebody else has this problem, I would appreciate you testing it. You will have to cut and ground yet another wire on the DRL controller to make this work.

has anyone figured out how to have the foggies work indy yet, using the same switch that comes factory. i happen to like the factory switch. that 4 pin theory sounds great but does that go to constant or to ground or to acc.

Tenchi tried the mod today, but it doesn't work for some reason. I'm trying to figure out what went wrong. But pin 4 should go to ground.

I will double check if I got the right one tomorrow. I am also wondering why it didn't work.

Yes, I cut the wrong wire! I went back and grounded the right one, and it works! I can turn on my fogs whenever I want with/without headlights and parking lights.

Thank you CorollasBest for the idea!

That's it. That is all you do. The only thing now is that you have to make sure the foglight switch is off when you park the car. The foglights will work without the car key in the ignition.

You cut the Green / Orange wire at pin 4 (look at first page for pictures) then you ground the first peice that would go into the DRL relay to a bolt (I used the screw that holds the DRL relay as the ground). Then tape off the second peice coming out of the DRL relay. That's it. Very similar to the DRL disable ground method (grounding the yellow wire). Remember, before you start, disconnect the negative terminal on the battery! Hope I made sense.... :D

WOOH Success  That thing was a pain to do! I removed the drivers seat so I could have more room. Fogs are now on with highs, low, parking/turn signals.....Theres no warning tone with the fogs like there is with the H.L,T lights...So u gotta check always

Pain doesn't describe it! I'm glad it worked out for you. I didn't think of taking out the seat. Good idea. I did take off the steering column cover. My hand was able to fit through there. And there was more light too.

my lights are powered through the cig lighter, that way when my car is off, there's no power to the fog lights, hope that helps....

ok, a couple solutions, neither is nice.
    *All Models*
you can connect pin 18 of the combination meter to a point ahead of the fog switch.

    *US -- 1NX Corollas Only*
or, you can use another switch
side effect: tail lamps will be on when fogs are on.

for the second choice you would take the DRL control pin 4 and pin 14 to the switch. then the other side would connect to ground. This would make the fogs controlled by that switch instead of the one up by the steering wheel.

or if you are really bored. you could combine the two and cut into the wiring harness from the steering wheel and find that fog wire. tie the pin14 from the drl in there and leave the pin 4 grounded direct. This eliminates the need for a second switch.

Do you have a pic or a diagram for the pin 18 solution? where is the combination meter located? This wll set off that warning tone right?

yeah, it will set off the same tone as the headlamps left on when you open the door. I dunno about the combination meter, that's where the speedometer and tach are. so, you could either pull it out to get to the wires, or find them somewhere below. I've tried to find the wires on my 02 and failed horribly. The only way I could reach that connector was to pull the gauges, then screw with it.

Hmmm, looks like that is going to be a tough one to do... Before I take everything apart, I want to make sure of what I am looking for.
