    well personality is one thing...but this is totally different...
    i should specified that i didnt mean hot headed during races...but post races...with all this throwing blame and threats...back in the day...you put someone in the wall...you get a beer after the race and laugh about it...
    btw E, i'm a gordon fan...:duck:....but i have to admit hes quite the whiner...
    my favorite driver was the Daddy himself...Richard Petty...woohooo...Petty for Governor...

    funny story...i was down in Kinston, NC (redneck country...no offense) and was having lunch with a couple of coworkers at a local country buffet...started talking Nascar (we were loud), and i mention i was a Gordon fan...you couldve heard a pin drop after that...everyone there was a diehard Earnhardt fan (prior to his death...may he RIP)...everyone in the restaurant stared...mind you i'm asian...needless to say, we got the heck outta there, and i got endless bashings from my coworkers...lol

    i've always wanted some kind of international event (like olympics / ryder cup / world cup / etc...) that pits americans against french against germans so nascar guys could go head to head with F1 and Indy guys, but it will never happen...

    it would be fun seeing them all get on teams of their nationality and race in the same set up car, though

    they do that every year...i think its called Race of Champions or something. it was held in France this year with Sebastian Loeb (if im not mistaken) winning it all (hes a rally driver)

    never been a fan of nascar never will I find it too boring really... just not my style of racing. As for the whole discussion we're having well about the tires and all that stuff Ferrari will NEVER be the same team they were with the new rules applied by FIA. FIA precisely made those rules to make the competition close and not have Ferrari win like 80% of the season races like the previous years. The reason I say that they'll never be the same is because Renault, Toyota and Mercedes are coming in STRONG with new improved technology for their cars and stuff. Ferrari has been advanced since back in the day and with very few upgrades to this date.... all I know is that with the new set of rules Ferrari didn't show much reliability with their motors and well the tires were another story that wasn't their fault... Ferrari has shown to be a superior team and what not I don't deny that BUT other teams that have been making improvements are and will come in strong to make the F1 seasons even more rigid and hell just way better over all which it's awesome cause let me tell u waking up at 6 am on sundays to watch Ferrari win wasn't too pleasant UNLESS u were a Ferrari fan which I'm not :D

    i watch that... that isn't what i'm talking about... that was totally lame. I'm talking about a real race, not some one lap shootout, and I'm talking about guys representing there countries, not their subcategory of racing.

    i agree that it is lame...just to please crowds, but they do represent countries you know. Teams are made up of countrymen, not their sport category.

    i am a ferrari fan...seen my diecast collection lately... :p

    i know what you mean, sorta like the olympics, but instead of gymastics, its rally and instead of track and field, its F1...right? that would be awesome...but i would think too big to organize....

    No, back in the day they fought like crazy....they would go into the pits and fist fight until someone got all bloodied up. But then later in the night, THATS when they snapped open the beer.

    Nowadays, fist fighting will lead to fines, point losses, suspensions, and charges. Jeff Gordon is a whiner, yet he does his fair share of rough driving.

    They ARE doing that....there is currently a series that is usually all indoor, with a figure eight type setup (without the crossover), that pits F1 racers vs nascar, rally drivers, indy, etc. Its filling up arenas, and they race identical cars. Most races are pretty close, and its pretty cool to watch drivers from many different types of racing going at eachother in identical cars. I dont find it lame at all...its 100% driver, with every aspect of a race course built into that track.

    In the US, IROC is racers from different series racings against eachother in identical cars.


    I dont understand your argument really. Youre basically admitting that Ferarri was superior, only because the other teams werent technologically advanced. Now that those new teams are beginning to get technologically advanced, Ferrari cant keep up. Thats the entire point of racing....to have the team, the knowledge, and the technology to compete against other teams that have the same level. Driver skill is a lot, but not nearly as much as car setup. Saying that the other teams are becoming more advanced sounds like a cop out.

    Every other team adapted to the new rules changes....even the other Bridgestone teams.

    And actually, in regards to technology, the rules are set beforehand, and the technology is built around that. Templates and dimensions are provided.

    except it is crap because it is indoor and on a tiny track and not a full race, just a lap or two... I want everyone on the track at once, for a long time like a real race.

    The longer a race is, the more it will deviate from drivers skill coming out on top.
    Because at that point, the length of pit stops come into effect (and F1 pit teams consist of about a hundred people working on that car at one time (yes, exagerating), and they use hydralic lifts, so US based teams would blow them out of the water), driver fatigue, engine tiring/failure, tires, weather change, etc.

    Yeah, drivers skill includes adapting to those conditions, but a short race like in the Race of Champions leaves ALL variables equal...other than driver skill.

    but its like a sprint... and they aren't even on the same track, there is no wheel-to-wheel. F1 races aren't that long, maybe something a bit shorter (one pit stop strategy)... and that would be part of the competitiion... national teams, not just national drivers... but the drivers would all be the ones from the top associations.

    I love how the rules have cause all the F1 teams to have ten guys standing around a pitted car with only two really doing anything... it is hilarious. The FIA always talks about saving money, shit... force them to have a maximum number on the pit crew.
