    Air Intakes

We all know that there's been a lot of repeatitive posts asking about what intakes to get and pics of them on, so here's an attempt on a sticky that will have info we all need. Feel free to add any other info you all have...

TRD Cold-Air Intake: (Only available in red)

    - Installed on RollaS car
    - On TRD-Rolla's car

    - Where to get it?
Partznet.com (its under the Matrix model, its the same intake)
    TRDextreme.com
    TRDsource.com
    VPower.net
    - you can also find some auctions for this intake at ebay, or go to your local dealer and try to get some good deals from them

Injen Cold-Air Intake: (Polished and Black)

    - Installed on my car

    - Where to get it?
    TRDextreme.com
    VPower.net
    PTuning.com
Injen's Dealer List (check for other dealer prices)

AEM Cold-Air Intake: (Colors: Red, Polished, Blue)

    - On AESC's car (scroll down for the pic before he had the SC on)
    - On moonshadow's car (scroll down for the pic; this is also the DIY CAI install page)

    AEM Short-ram Intake:

    - Akira2003's car

    Where to get it?

    VPower.net
    SpeedyPerformanceParts.com
    First-1.com

There are also other intakes sold at ebay like Cosmo and Bomz, but imo its better to invest on the three listed above. Well, this is my list. Like I said earlier, feel free to add any other info or other intakes that I missed :) . Hope this helps 8) .

As long as it fits, and is the same diameter piping, all CAI's are the same. They may LOOK different, with their paint or anodizing, but smooth aluminum pipe to the same location flows the same amount of air. Choose the cheapest you can find, if looks are not overly important. There is no voodoo science with the expensive CAI's, they're just counting on gullible buyers who think with their wallets. Expensive is not always better, it just may look cooler.
My car turns exactly the same dyno figures with Injen, TRD and e-bay bargain units

However, according to K&N and AEM, they told me that a short ram intake is better for the Corolla and that the CAI makes little or no difference in performance.

    just installed INJEN CAI

just wanted to let everyone know about the injen intake if you already have one then u should know what i am talking about.

i brough it because i got a good deal and when i install it this past week i found that the design for this injen cai is not as good as i think it would be in compare to the AEM. where the fuse box located at the injen intake will hit it and i end up wire tie the fuse box. in the AEM design it accuately mount off from the fuse box when i think is so much better now.

both intake is still great product is just my thought on the parts. figure someone out there want to know.

and one more thing injen dont come with the VSV bracket. i end up wire tie that too. i will post a pic of my engine bar soon. to show u guys.

    thanks for listening

    K&N

i got my intake from k&n...if you do a search by vehicle, however, they don't list anything for the corolla, just the matrix (which is the exact same engine)...
benefits - definite increase in horsepower, and considerable difference in the responsiveness of the gas pedal...i have a 5-speed, so this was a must. low-end torque, as well has increased noticeably...quite possibly the largest high performance air filter i've ever seen (on a car at least), plus, it's reuseable; just clean, re-oil, and re-install. however, i got an injen intake for my dad's 4-runner, and this filter must be replaced after 50,000-100,000 miles...plus, i spent less $$ on the k&n...much better deal, im glad i went this direction...holler

Will all CAI's hit the Corolla S foglight? Or is that just the TRD that does that?

Everyone should know that SR and CAI for 2003 and 2004 models won't fit the 2005 due to a redesign. There is no longer a VSV line running to the filter box, and the breather tube for the valves now runs to the intake tube as opposed to running to the aluminum throttle body.

I learned that the hard way...

Oh...and how come it doesn't say everywhere how loud short air intakes are (I hate calling them short ram when I don't see any ram action  )...I was completely unprepared how my previously mild-mannered baby started yelling, screaming and roaring every time I gave it gas...the change had me shocked (since vvt-i.net was down, I asked at corolland.com and the people on the forum calmed me a great deal by saying that it was a normal thing and I wasn't destroying my engine  ).
