    Navigation

Hey guys. Im thinking of putting a navi in the system since i need to travel a lot and i also don't know a lot of places i go to. I was thinking about some of the ones they sell in Best buy which has a sticky glue thing on it and u just like place it on the dashbord but it kind of looks gayyyyyyyyyyyy and also once u buy those there is no way u can update the roads so i was thinking if any of u knows a good navigation system that is basically everything like dvd/cd cause i don't want to install a navi and don't have the cd.

I've seen custom Navi units setup on a pop out touch screen LCD. However it was at a carshow; but at least you know they exist. I was talking to the guy that made the car. He said it was a siiiiick wiring job, tearing shit out hear and there, and some trial and error. Not to mention a $6500 set up......

buy a PDA for like 200 then get this thing for like 270 www.tomtom.com there are other kits out there too.. like www.pharosgps.com This setup costs less than 500 and it works great. also PDA's are small . i'd recoomend hte IPAQ 1900 series. VERY HTING AND SMALL looks nice on the dash mount kits..

That's true about the PALM but when you want to enter the address. Its really pain in the ass. Because it's so small and so fancy and it's just so like hard. Second like with it's small like screen you cant really the direction and you have to get really close to it. Then also like just putting it back in the cousoul and taking it out. U know

hmm yeah i know what you mean... most navigation systems are like 4.5'' to 5 inch screns.. the bigger PDA"s have a 3.8 -4'' screen.. I dont know i can see it fine from the driver seat. Just place it on like the vent mount kits or the dash mount kits.. works ok. plus u get all the other added benifits of having a PDA If you need it.. but yeah a indash OEM navigation system of course is hte best.. I was just simply providing a cheaper alternative. PLus its a lot easier to upgrade ur maps heh ..

Could also buy an older used laptop and throw in one of those GPS systems. They aren't the greatest things compared to the dedicated units, but they do pretty darn well.

Bringing back a 6 month old post...

What do you guys think of this navi HU:

    hideaway unit

    Its a Pioneer AVIC-N1:

    -6.5" motorized touch-screen
    -usual dvd/cd/mp3 perks
    -XM Satalite controls
    -22w RMS (50w peak) x 4 channels
    -GPS navi

It's a little pricey, but I'm considering it. Has anyone installed an in-dash navi unit before? Easy? Hard? Recommended?

look for an OEM used Matrix navigation system. If I had known the Matrix had a navigation option, I would have jumped on that unit instead of my current setup

Has anyone used either of these navi units (the N1 or the OEM Matrix navi)? What do you think of either of these? Which is easier to use? Which do you think is better?

I didn't hear the above, but I heard it connects to the vehicle speed sensor and increases it's accuracy that way. Without it, the nav unit still works, it's just acurate to probably 150 feet instead of 15.

DAMN bzzasn that looks awesome... makes me want it even more! How do you like it? Hows the audio/video/navi? Anything bad about it? What about the install? Did you do it yourself or did someone else do it? How much was the install?

well.......in my opinion it pretty much owns...the audio is good, its 50W X 4, except i dont think i get reception as well as my old alpine, but it sounds better and puts more full sounds out of my spekers, the video...sweet, pretty clear, no probs, the navigation... ive never had a navigation system before to compare it to, but my friend has a tsx with nav and from riding around with him a few times these two have a lot of similar features...very cool, convenient, easy to use, the positioning is within a few meters of real position, you can do almost anything, and get almost anywhere, its pretty up to date...etc.. the only thing that kinda sucks is that it has to have the nav dvd in to do all the advanced nav stuff (i.e. find food chains, addresses, gas stations..etc) so you cant listen to a cd and do the cool nav feature stuff at the same time, it has a memory nav mode with like less detailed maps and such when the nav dvd isnt in. And the install, i actually wanted to work so i didnt do it myself. I kind of got a hookup and got it for 1300 and 75 for the install...it took them about 2-3 hours. but yea, its pretty cool! sorry those pictures kinda suck btw

That is very nice. Do you think you would be able to hook up a cd-changer or something and listen to a cd and use the dvd for the navi at the same time?

All maps are dvd based. So if you want to keep them updated, you'll just have to purchase a new dvd every couple years or so (if the company is good about updating their maps).
